You may have noticed lots of your favorite brands coming out with oil-based products in the last year, and for good reason. These products are a far cry from the greasy, dirty kind of oil that clogs your pores and weighs down your hair. In fact, these oils are all about working with your skin and hair type to either cleanse or hydrate. My favorite cleansing oils fit the old adage “like attracts like” by pulling out the bad oils and leaving skin with plenty of moisture, not stripped. My must-have hydrating oils sink in immediately and are much longer-lasting than moisturizers. Check out a few of my all-time faves below.
In the fashion world, there’s outfit envy. In the beauty world, there’s makeup envy — and we are seriously envious when it comes to Annamarie Tendler. A genius makeup artist, Tendler covers a wide range of topics on her am. blog, but her The Daily Face posts, which chronicle her day-to-day makeup looks, are our favorite. (FYI: She did an amazing series in October called The Spooky Scary Daily Face, which was epic.) Each day she inspires with a gorgeous new look, and for one whole week, she’s sharing her makeup expertise with lucky, lucky us.
My skin gets really dry and itchy in the winter, but I’m not a fan of conventional moisturizers. For the most part, I think they’re filled with unhealthy ingredients, a lot of which end up drying out the skin more. Furthermore, no matter how many moisturizers claim not to leave a greasy residue, let’s be serious, so many of them do.
Back in January, I was all about getting a fresh start. I filled my fridge with kale, almond milk, and tofu, and swore I’d cut back on cocktails and cookies. This lasted a couple weeks…until the combination of frigid temps and oodles of work triggered a relapse into my profligate ways. Sigh. Happily, my beauty resolutions have actually stuck — I’ve tossed out old mascaras, added SPF to my daily regimen, and am being positively reckless with the bold lip colors. And the whole detox thing hasn’t been a complete failure: I’m a total convert to dry brushing, which I’m convinced makes me look slimmer and more toned — even after too much feasting.
Lately, I have a new non-detox detox favorite: The Organic Pharmacy’s Detox Cellulite Body Oil. I slather it all over my arms and legs right after the shower and the zesty, juniper- and grapefruit-infused oil makes me feel awake and energized. The best part, though, is how it keeps my limbs moisturized all day — much more effective than lotion. Doubtful whether this detox oil is having any sort of effect on my liver, but it definitely gives me a mood and body boost.
