The Katie Holmes + Bobbi Brown Makeup Collection Has Arrived!

As children of the ’90s, we’ll admit that we’ve loved Katie Holmes ever since she stole our hearts as Joey on Dawson’s Creek—and that’s almost as long as we’ve adored Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. So imagine our delight when we found out earlier this month that the duo had joined forces.

Now, they’ve finally released the final product: A makeup collection for busy, everyday women to help them get a gorgeous, effortless Katie Holmes glow.

Our favorite part of the limited edition collection is the Bobbi & Katie palette ($68) for eyes, cheeks and lips. The set includes a combination of nudes, pinks and browns which makes it particularly easy to create a neutral, lady-like look. Plus It’s small enough to fit in your purse, so whether you’re rushing to work, doing a midday touchup, or transitioning from day to night, you can leave your full-blown makeup bag at home.

To snag the Bobbi & Katie collection for yourself, stop by a Bobbi Brown counter or visit Bobbibrowncosmetics.com.

When It Comes To Lipstick, Is Sheer the New Opaque?

image

Like clockwork, we swap out our heavier foundation for CC cream and our dark jeans for sundresses the moment the temperatures rise above 60 degress. But before you drop the opaque lipstick for a tinted lip balm, consider a new alternative that has us rethinking our beauty routines.

Enter sheer lipsticks. These lightweight lip colors popping up everywhere right now, which means more options when it comes to updating your summer look.

Get Compliments on Your Beauty—Not Your Makeup: Guest Blogger

Whether you’re looking for celebrity gossip, the best product for frizzy hair, or advice on what to wear to your cousin’s wedding, the gals at Lovelyish have got you covered. Well-done makeup is always nice, but would you rather get compliments on your makeup or on your beauty? Personally, I’m not the kind of gal that can leave the house bare-faced, but it always feels good when someone asks if I’m not wearing makeup when I really am.

To pull off the no-makeup makeup look takes a bit of know-how and all the right formulas.

Perfectly Imperfect Makeup by Bobbi Brown at TIBI

Saturday evening at Pier 59, Bobbi Brown Lead Makeup Artist Kimberly Soane called the Tibi girl “urban and confident.” The makeup was meant to look like the models did it themselves, imperfect and slightly smudged—”almost like they’ve tried to wipe it away.” We’re loving the heavily lined lower lash line. According to Soane, the trick to pulling the look off is to line the upper lashes as well, only using a thinner line up top. “Liner on the top and bottom opens the eye. Liner on the bottom only drags the eye down.”

Also making an appearance backstage: Fashion Week manicurist extraordinaire Jin Soon Choi, using new polishes from her JINsoon line. Models wore shimmery shades of grey, green, red, and black with a matte topcoat “Matte Maker” over the top. The contrast of the shimmer and matte gave nails a dimensional, velvet appearance. According to Choi, she was inspired to shift away from her traditional high-gloss manicures by TIbi designer Amy Smilovic’s designs that combined color and utility.

Makeup On The Go: Guest Blogger

Girl Around Town co-founders, Leigh Evans and Mary Cunningham, created an online community for women to talk about the latest in fashion, beauty, food, and more. The site boasts jet-setting writers who are based in Los Angeles, Houston, and New York, all of whom have the insider deets on the hottest things to do and see all over the globe.

I’m pretty diligent about my makeup application in the mornings. But no matter how much time I spend first thing, by mid-day I look like a sad circus clown: I’ll have mascara rings underneath my eyes, my lipstick will be smeared, my cheeks will be pale, and the list goes on. So, I have learned to be prepared for the mid-day makeup battle by carrying a couple essentials with me at all times. Here’s what’s I regularly tote around with me:

A Spring 2013 Trend You Can Wear Right Now: Blue Eye Shadow

One of the more novel beauty trends we saw emerge from the spring 2013 runways in New York was blue eye shadow. Sure, it’s been done before (we’re children of the ’80s so we know this shade well), but it hasn’t been mainstream for a long time. Plus, this modern incarnation is extremely wearable.

If you’re as excited as we are about the revival of pretty blues, you’ll be psyched to know it’s a shade that works year-round. We asked our web producer, Alicia, to give it a try (she’s a makeup junkie if ever there were one) in a way that’s very fall appropriate. Click through for her best tips and remember: when you’re rocking an unusual color on your lids, keep the rest of your makeup minimal!

1) Prime your eyes. This will increase the staying power of your look and prevent any unnecessary smudging.

2) Begin with a medium matte blue eyeshadow. I used MAC’s Blue Spill. Using a flat dense synthetic brush, lightly swipe color onto your lids. The trick is to avoid being heavy-handed—you want just a light wash of blue shadow, nothing intense or dramatic.

3) Now use fluffy shading brush to pick up a lighter blue shade, Bobbi Brown’s Electric Eel. Tap off any excess and then use windshield wiper motions to blend in the color including in the crease. Repeat until completely blended.

4) To add some dimension and open up the eyes, I added a Bobbi Brown’s Cornflower Blue (pale sky blue) eyeshadow to the inner corners of my eyes.

4) This look focuses on the blue eye shadow so only use a very sharp eyeliner pencil just to fill in any gaps between your lashes. Make small dashes directly into your lash line. You do not want visible liner. Add a small amount of mascara to just coat lashes.

5) Finish the eyes by filling in and setting your brows with Benefit’s Brow Zings.

6) End with a swipe of neutral lip color. I used Bobbi Brown’s Rosy.

Would you ever wear blue shadow?

If you’re not ready to experiment with your shadow, try a colored liner.
