A little bit of blush can go a long way, but it can go even farther when you know how to apply it to your exact face shape.
We’ve been planning our dream weddings since we were five years old. So it’s no surprise that we can’t get enough of Lover.ly, a wedding inspiration and e-commerce site. Once a week, the ladies behind Lover.ly will be sharing their expert advice on all things nuptials—whether you’re standing at the altar or enjoying a view of it from the audience.
In the summer of 1853, a hot tempered chef was manning the kitchen at a chic resort. A dinner guest found the chef’s French fries too thick for his liking and sent the plate back to the kitchen. In an effort to one up the persnickety customer, the chef sliced the potatoes paper-thin. And eureka! America’s favorite salty, snack—duh! the potato chip—was born.
Unexpected discovery of a seriously great thing, right? Like our favorite crunchy fix, these four beauty products have surprising (and totally awesome!) beginnings.
After weeks of worldwide anticipation, this afternoon the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a royal baby boy! We’re so excited for the new parents and send them our hearty congratulations. If we could, we’d also send some handpicked Birchbox-style gifts to help Kate get through her first few weeks of motherhood. From pampering products to multitaskers, here’s what we would bestow upon the duchess.

I’ve been a huge Halle Berry fan since her scene-stealing turn in 1999’s Bulworth. So when I heard via The National Enquirer (yes, I am proudly subscribe to their emails) that the Oscar-winner recently tied the knot, I immediately launched into amateur sleuth mode. Translation: I trolled celebrity gossip sites for hours.
My digging unearthed some juicy tidbits about the nuptials, but not the one thing I was really looking for: a picture of the radiant bride in her wedding dress. Drats! While I await more details, I opted to try and recreate the leading lady’s signature look for myself.
There are people that are fair and then there are people that are extra super fair. I fall into the latter camp, which means that blush is a non-negotiable part of my beauty routine. If I leave the house in the morning and forget to add a little color to my cheeks, I’ll have at least two people ask me, “Meredith, are you feeling alright?” The answer is yes, I feel totally fine, I just happen to be exceptionally pale, thankyouverymuch.
Temperatures are on the rise here in New York, which makes commuting even more unbearable. To keep our makeup from melting faster than an ice cream cone at summer camp, we rely on products that fend off shine and have serious staying power. Here are four of our favorites that we’ll be using to beat the heat all summer long:
Let’s face it: We all need career advice at some point. That’s why Megan Broussard, a contributor to The Daily Muse and Glass Heel, created ProfessionGal, a blog geared toward working women. This week, we’re lucky to have Megan sharing her best tips for success in the workplace.
1. Mismatched Foundation
One thing you should always keep in mind: Your face and neck should be the same color. To ensure that your foundation matches your natural skin color, try smoothing it out on your jawline first, not your hand. Also, examine the accuracy of color in various lighting inside your house and out. This can make a huge difference and you could be surprised by how your go-to foundation looks in natural light.
2. Full-On Smoky Eye
Wearing layers of charcoal from lashline to brow can be a dangerous office look, particularly because dark colors surrounding your eyes can make you appear tired. If you want to look bright-eyed and bushy-tailed on Monday morning, try a one-shade lid, like the basic colors included in Urban Decay’s Naked Palette.
For the longest time, I didn’t know how to wear blush—in fact, I was afraid of it. My blushophobia had me convinced that I would end up with two red circles on my cheeks that would run and smear down my face. It was a shame because I knew on an abstract level that blush (when used right) can liven up a complexion faster than any other makeup staple. Luckily, this story has a happy ending: I discovered Cargo’s Water Resistant Blush, which some of you will be getting in your boxes this month. Now I’ve been showing off my cheek color every day—and I haven’t been felt the need to check a mirror every two seconds.
