I have major blonde ambition. The last few times I’ve gone to get highlights, I’ve left feeling like they could have been a lot brighter and bolder. I’m almost due for another color sesh, but this time I’m going to do my homework and bring a photo with me of the exact shade I want.

Actress Alice Callahan, who plays Jessica on “Gossip Girl”
This morning, when I was on set with the amazing “Gossip Girl” grooming team, I was delighted to steal the show’s lead hair stylist, Jennifer Johnson, away for a few minutes to get her best tips. After all, this is the woman is responsible for my ultimate hair crush: Serena van der Woodsen (a.k.a. Blake Lively). I’ve had a thing for Lively’s effortlessly tousled style for ages, and I finally learned how to recreate the look. Stay tuned for the video and article featuring Johnson’s best tricks, but in the meantime, here’s how she recommends getting the perfect wave.

I have confessed many times before that if I had to choose a Gossip Girl character to be, it would totally be Serena. (Uh, that hair!) But lately, I’ve been envying Lola instead (in case you haven’t been keeping up, she’s the long-lost van der Woodsen cousin). Positioned as the up-and-coming It girl on the show, the newbie is certainly making a strong debut with a killer beauty look.
One of my favorite things to see on the red carpet is a really chic ponytail. Because unlike complicated chignons or intimidating side-swept updos, ponytails are beautiful in their simplicity. From tightly pulled back to messy-sexy, ponytails are easy to replicate. This past year, celebs sported plenty sassy ponies and I’ve rounded up the best. Which one is your favorte? Vote in the poll below!

When I saw this photo of Olivia Wilde back in August at the Berlin premiere of her movie, Cowboys and Aliens, I was mesmerized. As far as I know, this is the first time a celeb has sectioned off a pony like this with elastics (for a red carpet event anyway). Given how great the look is, I don’t think it will be the last. I especially liked the sci-fi feel of the style, which was very fitting given the film’s premise.

Yesterday, I was lucky enough to pick the brain of Kristofer Buckle, a genius makeup artist who’s worked with the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and Blake Lively. As if those credentials weren’t impressive enough, Buckle is currently the makeup artist on the set of The X Factor, my latest T.V. guilty pleasure. Click through to learn his top tips and tricks!

I know, I know. I talk about Blake Lively’s every hair moment on this blog — but I can’t help myself. Whether she’s styled her mane in some creative braid or it’s just hanging long and loose, I have major hair envy every time I see a picture of the gorgeous starlet. Today’s jealosy-inducing photo: Lively at an event at Madame Tussauds in New York yesterday, wearing her hair super-voluminous and curly. I swear, I had no idea I wanted to try ringlets until just right now.
I love love the blonde bombshell’s departure from her signature beachy-waves look, but I can see how it might be controversial. What do you think? Vote in our poll below to let us know your thoughts!

Last night’s premiere of Gossip Girl’s fifth season was entertaining and expectedly salacious. Dan, Nate, Chuck, and Blair were all back and better than ever with their rapid fire banter and seemingly unending brooding. Of course, Serena was there too, and doing what she does best: showcasing her to-die-for wardrobe and giving women everywhere major hair envy. I mean, is her hair perfect or what?
I especially loved her laid back look toward the end of the show, with the top half of her hair pulled into a loose side braid. This style is so easy and effortlessly chic, it has me wishing (yet again) that my hair was much longer. What’s particularly nice about the ‘do is that it’s meant to be imperfect. In my opinion, that’s the best kind of hair style: a little messy and a whole lot of sexy.

I’m not going to lie, I was pretty excited when I turned on the TV last night and stumbled upon the Teen Choice Awards. At 28, you’d think that my taste would have matured beyond the young adult genre…but it hasn’t. I still have a love for teen-targeted guilty pleasures when it comes to books (The Hunger Games), movies (Harry Potter), and TV shows (The Vampire Diaries).
Aside from seeing some of my favorite heartthrobs and starlets up on stage accepting awards, I like the Teen Choice Awards because the ensembles are more relaxed and fun than other red carpets. Sadly, last night was not the best sartorial showing — several ladies let me down, particularly Emma Stone and Zooey Deschanel. At any rate, there were some very cute picks. Here are my favorites — tell me if you agree with my choices in comments!

Nina Dobrev: The Vampire Diaries star looked a-d-o-r-a-b-l-e in her flared gingham D&G dress and white clutch. She finished off the youthful look with a sweet ponytail and a pair of beautiful Ferragamo pumps.
Zoe Saldana: There is literally no one else out there that could look as good in this tiered metallic Lanvin dress. I particularly love the lady-like and very on trend just-below-the-knee hemline, which is a style I am set on incorporating into my fall wardrobe.
Kaley Kuoco: The sassy blonde was the evening’s host, so it’s only right for her to make the short list. I loved her ethereal Rebecca Taylor dress and her romantic soft waves were the perfect compliment to the ensemble.

Blake Lively: She never fails to impress me with her risk-taking and bright color choices. I am sure that her tight-fitting orange Gucci dress wasn’t the most comfortable, but it was a worthwhile sacrifice because she looked radiant. She gets extra style points for finishing off the outfit with leopard print heels. Total perfection.
Rachel Bilson: Last night, Bilson proved yet again that she’s worthy of style-icon stature when she stepped out in the best combo of the evening: a white Chloe frock and nude Brian Atwood booties. The juxtaposition of a floaty, flirty dress and hardcore spiked heels is just brilliant. I can’t wait to see her back on the small screen this fall in her upcoming CW show Hart of Dixie.

I am not quite sure how she does it, but Blake Lively looks more and more breathtaking every time she steps out on to the red carpet. This past weekend, the starlet attended the BAFTA Brits to Watch Dinner in Los Angeles in a stunning Marchesa gown, with her hair in a beautiful braided updo. (Is it just me, or does Blake share our current obsession with pretty plaits?) I especially loved how luminous her skin looked.
I’m not saying I can replicate this look (for that, I’d need Lively’s genes (and battery of makeup, hair, and fashion stylists), but I can use it as inspiration and four key products. First, I’d use Xen-Tan’s Deep Bronze Luxe to get an even faux glow. Next comes Jouer’s Luminizing Moisture Tint, which gives my skin even coverage as well as a subtle radiance thanks to the formula’s light-diffusing minerals. Third, I’d apply a couple coats of Benefit’s BADgal Lash Mascara for va-voom lashes. Finally, I’d finish off the look with a few swipes of Jouer’s Mini Tinted Lip Enhancer in Champagne, a barely there neutral that leaves just a trace of color and whole lot of shine.

Hair used to be big—literally. But this season we’ve seen stylists step away from the Jersey Shore poofs and opt for something a little more pulled together—the sleek bun and sleek pony. From the runway to the red carpet, these tight hairdos have been all the rage. With all the variegated looks designers introduced this season, I’m not surprised they’re choosing straightforward hair. I for one was hesitant to embrace the stripes with floral trend, but once I tried it out last week, there was no going back.
The downfall of these polished locks: When your hair is pulled back, there isn’t much room for disguising your face. Side swept bangs have become a permanent part of my look in recent years, but I am willing to pick up a fine-toothed comb and get cracking. There’s no better way to celebrate summer than trying out a ‘do that will be sure to keep you cool, right? Tell us if you’re daring enough, and if you are, use Oscar Blandi’s Olio di Jasmin Hair Serum to smooth flyaways and give your hair that glossy shine!
