In the summer of 1853, a hot tempered chef was manning the kitchen at a chic resort. A dinner guest found the chef’s French fries too thick for his liking and sent the plate back to the kitchen. In an effort to one up the persnickety customer, the chef sliced the potatoes paper-thin. And eureka! America’s favorite salty, snack—duh! the potato chip—was born.

Hair and Makeup Tips from the Set of SUITS with Sarah Rafferty
From her gorgeous red locks to her impeccable fashion choices, we’re completely head over heels for Donna Paulsen, played by Sarah Rafferty on USA’s legal hit, SUITS. A few weeks ago we caught up with Rafferty to find out what it takes to get in character while on set. Her flawless look actually takes hours of hair and makeup (not to mention a little bronzer for her fair skin). You’ll be surprised how many products are used to achieve a camera ready look! I’ve been a huge Halle Berry fan since her scene-stealing turn in 1999’s Bulworth. So when I heard via The National Enquirer(yes, I am proudly subscribe to their emails) that the Oscar-winner recently tied the knot, I immediately launched into amateur sleuth mode. Translation: I trolled celebrity gossip sites for hours.
My digging unearthed some juicy tidbits about the nuptials, but not the one thing I was really looking for: a picture of the radiant bride in her wedding dress. Drats! While I await more details, I opted to try and recreate the leading lady’s signature look for myself.
The Benefit Primer That Outlasts Birchbox Co-Founder Katia’s 15-Hour Day
I have always been a bit skeptical of primers—they tend to have zero effect on my oily skin and my foundation never seems to last through lunch even when I use them. That said, I am really excited about Benefit’s new primer that promises 15 hours of flawless makeup. The stay flawless 15-hour primer is super easy to apply for lazy girls like me and the packaging is simply adorable!
After testing out the product myself, I’ve become a primer convert. The strong-hold formula, which you apply straight from the chubby stick, truly makes my makeup last, even in the humid city weather. I’m now less of an oil slick by the end of the day! Check out the video below to see how it holds up with Birchbox co-founder Katia’s busy 15-hour schedule. (Spoiler alert: it does).

This year I’m braving the holiday crowds and heading to Disney World for the Fourth of July weekend! While I’m down there, I’m also going to visit Universal Studios to check out the recently expanded home of The Simpsons—Springfield—and did I mention I’ll be celebrating my birthday? It’s bound to be a fun amusement park-filled week! Here’s what I plan on taking along to make the most of my time in Orlando:
1. Longchamp Le Pliage I love that this bag is water-resistant and that it has a zipper, so I don’t have to worry about things accidentally falling out.
Any Michiganders out there? This week our senior manager of social media, Rachel, is leaving for her wedding in Charlevoix, Michigan! (Note: longtime Birchbox fans have probably been anticipating this day since October when her engagement bling started popping up all over our Instagram feed.)
