How to Find the Right Concealer for You

image

Last week my aunt shot me a semi-despairing email that plaintively asked, “Candice, what’s a concealer that really covers dark circles?” She had unsuccessfully tried several formulas that wouldn’t even last through a normal workday, and was in need of some serious help. Her note reminded me that in the wide world of concealers, it’s important to know which formulas are best suited to your particular concerns so you choose the best product.

Since I’ve suffered from every face malady requiring a concealer—acne, scars, blemishes, undereye circles, the list goes on—and my combination skin poses its own set of challengesI decided to come up with a mini-guide on how to find the perfect concealer for you.

The Story Behind Benefit’s Benetint: Rose Petals, San Francisco and an Exotic Dancer

image

Benefit’s Benetint is one of those makeup bag staples that every beauty editor and beauty junkie seems to own no matter what. It’s not hard to see why it’s a universal favorite: Just a few swipes of this rose-hued cheek and lip stain gives you a seriously pretty flush that lasts for hours.

But while you might be more than familiar with the product, do you know about the cheeky—dare we say slightly racy—origins of Benetint?

Cop Jessica Chastain’s Pre-Oscars Look!
At a recent pre-Oscars party, Zero Dark Thirty star Jessica Chastain rocked a subtle but oh-so-chic combo of pretty pink lips, matte skin, and impeccable liner. Here’s how to recreate her look:
Step 1: You won’t find a lick of shine on Jessica’s flawless face. Before applying your go-to complexion perfectors, start with a mattifying moisturizer like this one from Benta Berry to get a totally even canvas.
Step 2: Add pale peachy blush to the apples of your cheeks. Opt for powder that you can use to build up the color like Benefit’s Coralista shade.
Step 3: Draw attention to your eyes by lining your upper lash line with an inky liner like this one from stila. No matter your skill level, you can achieve the perfect line with these troubleshooting tips. Follow with a few coats of mascara.
Step 4: Now for the fun part—your lips! Grab a long-lasting, vibrant pink (we’re currently obsessed with Elizabeth Arden’s Blush Lipstick) and follow these easy application tips.
Step 5: Complete the look by adding a deep side part to your hair and smooth away any frizz with a nourishing hair serum like this one from Amika.

Your eyes are the windows to your soul. And tired, puffy peepers can reveal your age, sleep depravation, or last night’s over indulgence in one too many cocktails. Even if your social calendar is jam-packed, this President’s Day Weekend is the perfect time to offload some serious undereye baggage. Use these brightening tricks to help you look fully rested come Tuesday morning:

Model Beauty: A Celebration of Cara Delevingne’s Eyes

We fell hard for Natalie Alcala last fall, when the LA-based writer and blogger spent a week guest blogging for us. In fact, we loved her posts so much that we asked her to be a contributing editor. In addition to blogging for us once a week, she’ll also be writing for the Birchbox Magazine and keeping us up to speed on all things fashion, beauty, and fun.

Cara Delevingne (pronounced De-le-veen) is officially the model of the moment. A few months ago, Fashionista revealed that the 20-year-old British stunner walked in a whopping 53 shows during the spring 2013 runway season. That’s a lot of strutting!

So, why does every iconic fashion designer and acclaimed photographer want to work with her? Besides being a total charmer in front of the camera (have you seen her Shania Twain impression?) her features are spellbinding—especially those eyes. If you’re looking for some weekend beauty inspiration, here are six delightful Delevingne gazes worth replicating.

Besides it being awards season, there’s another reason why this is my favorite time of year: It’s the release of spring ad campaigns! Although I love the bundled up looks for fall, spring collections are always fresh, fun and bursting with brilliance. Plus, I get particularly hyped for the latest ads since the beauty is more experimental as well. From the slick hair and dark lip at Kurt Reiger to the peach lid and nude pout at Max Mara, here are the looks that I’m really feeling for spring.
