Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel at Time’s 100 most influential people gala earlier this week.
Like most worker bees, my 9 AM office routine follows a fairly familiar pattern. Trudge zombie-like towards coffee, browse my inbox for 10 minutes, then head to a gossip site to catch up on some celeb happenings. (Especially here, beauty news is important!)
This morning, I found myself swooning over a photo of America’s favorite newlyweds: the Timberlakes. While we don’t all have red-carpet galas to attend, these looks are still perfect for a night out on the town or a formal summer wedding. The former Ms. Biel looked radiant with bronze smoky eyes and a Bridgette Bardot-esque ‘do, and her beau looked particularly dashing in his updated 20/20 Experience look—we love the side-swept hair and fitted tuxedo. Whether you’re heading to a sophisticated fête or just a dinner with friends, follow these grooming tips to snag this A-list couple’s style.
Each Fashion Week, we see a few of the same tools and products over and over again backstage at what seems like every show. One of those products is the beautyblender—top makeup artists use it for a flawless, airbrush-like finish, and we’ve adopted it from the runway for home use. During Fashion Week last fall, we sat down with beautyblender’s founder Rea Ann to find out her inspiration for the tool and the best tips on using it. Have you used the beautyblender? Let us know in the comments what you think.
Emily Loftiss, of Loftiss Says…, is a style and beauty maven who can take even the worst fashion debacle and make it a winning situation—who else could turn an old, too-small dress into an awesome style find from your own closet? This week, she’s telling us her top shopping picks for the holidays, her 5-minute trick to scoring gorgeous night out makeup, and more.
Oh, it’s that time of year when you are looking for gifts for everyone from your bestie to your grandmother. Instead of buying her items that might just take up space and leave her unimpressed (mom, I still don’t forgive you for the orange in the foot of my stocking!) check out my fool proof list below. Grab even a few of these and I promise you’ll hit it out of the park!
This product is magical in every way—it gives you a gorgeous, healthy glow! Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to have that golden look. Plus, the packets are perfect for traveling too!

It took me a long time to start using liquid foundation. I was always afraid of ending up with a cakey-looking face, but many of the newer and better foundation formulas give a “you, only better” finish. The most important, and often hardest, part of looking your best when using color is the application. Here are three ways that I apply my foundation to ensure a flawless finish:
1. The BeautyBlender Sponge: I’ve sung my praises about this magical sponge on my blog, but this is also an absolute staple for makeup artists on the go and at Fashion Week. Wet the sponge first and dip it in your foundation. Then, dab it on your skin for the lightest, air-brush effect. The shape also makes it ideal to get product into even the smallest corners (around the nose and eyes).
While we all know the importance of washing our face everyday, we often neglect to clean things that touch our skin regularly, like makeup brushes. I am totally guilty of this myself, which is why I did some investigating on the subject and eventually filmed the above tutorial. Here’s a simple breakdown—and no, cleaning your brushes doesn’t have to be a big to-do.
This morning, we’re shooting videos with Stila’s Pro Makeup Artist Sarah Lucero, who is just about the coolest person ever. The LA-based artist is showing us a must-learn look inspired by the Fall 2011 runway shows. But first, she gave me a little tutorial in flawless foundation application. She uses Beautyblender sponges, which in addition to be adorably egg-shaped and fuchsia, help foundation melt into the skin for a completely natural finish. She dampens the sponge, dips it in the makeup, and lightly rolls it onto skin. The makeup blends in perfectly, no lines, smears, or creases. And, she says, you can use a damp Beautyblender sponge to freshen up during the day — simply roll it across skin to revive foundation. Guess what tool I’m lobbying to have added to the Birchbox Shop?
