We’ve all looked at ourselves in the mirror and wondered if it was time to switch our hair up: Should I get bangs? Would I look good as a blonde? Maybe I could rock Anne Hathaway’s pixie…
But before you do anything drastic and have to call up your hairdresser for an emergency appointment, consider these few guidelines when it comes to changing your ‘do.

We’re guilty of sticking with the same hair cut for years — if it’s not broke, why fix it? — but that can be a little boring. But not everyone has our issue. Paulina, one of our amazing operations associates, is always eyeing new cuts and styles. She’ll be sharing her tress inspiration and tips every other week.

We’re absolutely fans of bangs here in the Birchbox office. But if there’s anything more trying than growing out a pixie cut, it’s growing out your fringe. So let’s say you’re trying to go for a more bangs-less look in these next few months—it shouldn’t mean you have to lose your knock-out hairstyle too! Here are three painless tips and tricks to help you grow out your fringe without having to compromise:
There’s been lots of news on the bangs front today. First, we read about Kim Kardashian’s new side bang cuteness. Then, our very own Rachel shared with us her own personal cautionary tale of curly hair and bangs (you’ve gotta love Throwback Thursday). And just now, we spied the most amazing photo ever from the new @FLOTUS Twitter account: Michelle Obama has some serious fringe! We are dying over how great this cut is on the first lady. Consider us obsessed.
What do you think of MObama’s new ‘do? Are you a fan of bangs?

Throwback Thursday or #tbt has become an internet mainstay, so of couse we’re jumping on the bandwagon. This week’s brave soul: our Community Manager, Rachel.
You wouldn’t know from the looks of my put together 29-year-old self, but there was a time when I was not the stylish lady you see before you. Let me take you back to the spring of 2007: the Spice Girls had a reunion tour, Heidi and Spencer made a music video, Shrek the Third was released, and I was living in Paris as a graduate student at the American University of Paris.
You could say Melanie Allen knows a thing or two about good hair. As the Marketing Manager and Content Editor of My Best Friend’s Hair—which helps readers find awesome stylists, salons and products—Melanie is particularly knowledgeable about all things ‘do. That’s why this week she’s giving us the scoop on salon etiquette, growing out your bangs, and more.

We’ve all been there: the old “should I get bangs” debate. But what should you do when you’re totally over the bangs you’re growing out? Here’s everything you need to know about getting those bangs out of the way for good (or, you know, until you’re itching to cut them again!)

Stop the presses: Kate Middleton just got bangs. We’ve had our eyes firmly glued on the Duchess of Cambridge’s long, flowing brunette hair for ages, and this is the most radical change she has ever undergone. Click through to see her new look!

Trend alert: full fringe is big for spring 2013. Backstage at today’s Custo Barcelona show, lead stylist Duffy created a ’70s vibe by giving girls faux full bangs and occasionally a princess-like braid tucked behind the ears. This is one of a handful of shows, like Erin Fetherston, where we’ve seen this look being played up. Are you rocking bangs these days?
