You may remember that last month, Birchbox co-founders Hayley and Katia wrote a letter to the Birchbox community explaining why we have a shop and asking for feedback on how to build the best beauty ecommerce site in the business. You spoke, and we listened! We are thrilled to unveil a new feature which shows you what products people who purchased an item also bought. We hope this will make shopping on Birchbox more enjoyable! Go to any product page, and you will find the associated products at the bottom of the page.
Be on the lookout for more shop improvements as we continue to grow with your support and feedback!
As you probably know, we’ve teamed up with Pencils of Promise (PoP) this month to build a school. We’re giving 15 percent of proceeds from all the full-size sales in our Shop to PoP, with the goal of raising $25,000—the amount it takes to construct an entire school!
Instead of just telling you about the life-changing work that PoP does, we wanted to show you. We’ve picked just a few photos from their archives to introduce you to some of the children that PoP has benefited over the years. We also hope that these snapshots motivate you to finally pick up that lip gloss you’ve been lusting after—it’s benefiting a good cause, after all!

For our August Birchbox, we took a different approach to our usual product cards. To go along with our Beauty School theme, we created a Beauty 101 fold-out, with tips on getting a better shave, maximizing your makeup brushes, and more. We also tapped the brilliant Will Bryant to provide the awesome illustrations for our booklet. Based in Portland, the artist has worked with The New York Times, Chronicle Book, and more—we feel so lucky to be featuring his work!

Despite being in the middle of completing his MFA at Portland State University, Bryant took time and care with our project. In the words of our creative team: “He was a dream to work with, and was endlessly patient with our demands and last-minute requests.” We hope you love his illustrations as much as we do!
Walls looking a little bare? Pick up one of Bryant’s cheerful illustrated prints.
By now, some of you have received your Birchbox (woo hoo!). We hope you enjoy reading our product tips and playing with your samples! You’ll also notice that there’s else in your box: a Birchbox Find.
What’s a Birchbox Find, you ask? Good question. A Birchbox Find is a product we’ve come across that we think is exciting, time-saving, awesome, routine-improving, or all of the above. We are committed to bringing you high-end beauty and lifestyle samples every month but we also know that there are plenty of amazing products that don’t fit in to that category. A Birchbox Find will always be in addition to your usual samples—it’ll never replace any of them! (We’d never deny you beauty treats!) We’ll only bring you products that we think you’ll enjoy trying. We hope this adds to your Birchbox experience!
Back in August, we were excited to share Schick’s Hydro Silk Razor with our subscribers. This month, the Birchbox Find we’re gaga about is Simple®’s Revitalizing Eye Roll-on. The cooling roll-on quickly reduces puffiness and rejuvenates the delicate eye area. Plus, the refreshing formula is free of dyes, perfumes, and other harsh irritants.

Spoiler Alert: Some of our members will be receiving DDF’s rockstar cleanser in their August Birchboxes!
I grew up in Miami and spent most of my weekends and all my summers on the water, either sailing or teaching sailing. Needless to say, I spent a lot of time in the sun. That, coupled with a mid-20s bout of acne, left me with more than a few sun spots and dark areas. Luckily, skincare products have become more and more effective at fading these types of marks.
When we were growing up, August was filled with excitement and anticipation (or maybe a little dread) for the start of another school year. This month, we’re bringing that same thrill back to our customers—grown-up style—with our Beauty School theme. We promise, no pop quizzes (whew), but we’re not revealing anything else just yet. Stay tuned over the next few days for more details, and get psyched—we’re officially making it cool to get schooled.
In the meantime, have you scoped out all our awesome July stories? Don’t miss them in the Birchbox magazine.
