The 1920’s throwback trend is everywhere right now, from chin-grazing bobs to Baz Luhrmann’s long-awaited film adaptation of The Great Gatsby finally coming out this May. And now we’re adding one more covetable roaring ’20s redux to our list—TOCCA's brand new fragrance, Liliana.
Whether you live in a tiny apartment or a sprawling ranch-style home, chances are you don’t get to update your décor as frequently as you’d like. I know I’ve been stuck with the same furniture since my first apartment after college because hey, it still works. But even if you don’t have the budget to do a redecoration right now, there are still a lot of small, very easy things you can do to make your home feel fresh and impress guests.
1) Incorporate pops of color into your color scheme: I can’t get enough of these cobalt blue C. Wonder Foo Dogs, which would look trés fetching on the book shelf next to my copy of Isabella Blow’s biography and old copies of New York Magazine. I’ve also got my eye on these Core Bamboo Utensils with color-blocked handles, which would certainly encourage me to cook more frequently.
Nothing gets us giddy like a good wedding. Katelyn Koepke Lewis, one of our lovely freelance writers, got hitched this October and we couldn’t resist asking her to share her bridal wisdom. The former PR maven and J-school grad recently went back to her editorial roots, working as a feature writer and editor for Be U Weddings, a Chicago-based blogazine. This week, Katelyn’s sharing her newlywed advice, from bridal beauty tricks that you can use post-wedding to how to pick hostess gifts for your new in-laws.
While I can barely believe Thanksgiving is tomorrow (where did 2012 go?), I’m poised and ready for pumpkin cream cheese cupcakes, a tryptophan-induced nap, and lots of belly laughs courtesy of my new nieces and nephews. It’s also time to stockpile that often uninspired token of appreciation: the hostess gift. This year, I’m nixing the tried-and-true candle staple (although I could “ooh” and “ahh” over Diptyque’s all day) for something a bit more memorable. Here’s what’s on my gifting list this year:
I’m generally not a huge fragrance buff—in fact, there are entire weeks when I’ll forget to wear any perfume—but there’s something about the holidays that really brings out my olfactory sense. I don’t know if it’s the smell of pine trees, candy canes, and gingerbread in the air, or just the lovely window displays all around NYC right now, and I don’t care. I just want to smell good! Lucky for me, TOCCA stepped in at the right moment by throwing a delightful tea party for press members to see some of their newest beauty products.
We’ve been planning our dream weddings since we were five years old. So it’s no surprise that we can’t get enough of Lover.ly, a wedding inspiration site that lets you search through pics of swoon-worthy gowns, bouquets, and everything else you need for the big W-day. This week, the ladies behind Lover.ly are taking over the blog to share their favorite bridal beauty tips. Check back every day for a new post!
Whether you’re jetting off to the Caribbean or hiding away in a wintery cabin, your honeymoon is the perfect excuse to update your beauty bag with a few special items. Here are a few things that you won’t want to leave out.

This weekend marks the official start of summer, which means that Birchboxers have plans to kick back, rest up, and hopefully bask in some serious sunshine. We asked several of our staffers where they’re headed (stay-cations sound as enticing as traveling) and the must-have products they’re bringing along. Here’s what graphic designer Charlie had to say.
I’m headed to the Hamptons this weekend and I will definitely be taking Tocca’s sunscreen wipes with me so I don’t have to carry a big bottle of SPF around. I also plan on using my Clark’s Radiance Mask after being in the sun to help rehydrate my skin.
Speaking of masks, here’s a cheat sheet to the best masks for your skin!
Once a week, Birchbox’s resident Yoga and men’s product expert, Eric, will gives us girls some insight into his world in You’ve Got Male. Whether he’s giving his expertise on skincare (boys need advice, too!) or highlighting his new favorite grooming trend, this guy has got taste—so we’re lucky he’s on staff and willing to share.

For those of you who nabbed one of the coveted Birchbox Man limited edition boxes before they sold out, you’ve got an amazing gift for your guy that will help him upgrade his grooming and lifestyle game. For everyone else, there are still great ways to put together a thoughtful and exciting present. Pairing items together is a creative option that can show someone you really care and took extra time to help them find a new solution or a fabulous routine. Here are some of my favorite pairings:
We’re all too aware of how insane magazine deadlines can be, which is why we’re amazed how editors can muster up the energy to blog in their spare time. And yet, somehow they do. This week, Nykia Spradley and Ayren Jackson-Cannady, the expert duo behind Gloss Daily, the Ladies’ Home Journal beauty blog, are on board for five days of expert tips, product recommendations, and more.
Some days, we’re just as obsessed with home décor as we are with beauty. Over the next few weeks many of us will turn our quiet abodes into boarding houses for family and guests. If you’re anything like us, before opening your doors for the holidays, you contemplate a minor bathroom upgrade. Okay, let’s snap back to reality for a sec. We might not have the time or resources to make permanent changes to our bathrooms, but we can make small changes that have a big impact. See our picks after the jump!
If you haven’t noticed, we’ve added a ton of fabulous new products to our shop this month. And our staffers are finding some new staple items to add to their beauty routines. Here our some of our favorite products — get shopping!
blinc Mascara: “I love how the mascara tubes and slides off easily with water and a light touch — it makes cleanup so easy! I hate the greasy feeling eyemakeup remover leaves behind, so this was a huge win for me.” —Jenna
TOCCA Eau de Parfum, Stella: “I adore everything about this perfume, from the inspiration — a mischievous Italian heartbreaker — to the sweetly feminine scent. Plus, the etched glass bottle feels both vintage and chic, and is a nice addition to my growing fragrance collection.” —Mollie
Deborah Lippman Lara’s Theme: “I’m pretty much obsessed with this color — I keep reapplying week after week. It’s so perfect for summer and makes it so nice to look down at my nails! I’ll probably keep using it into the fall as well. It goes on so easily and never look clumpy or streaky.” —Rachel
Anastasia Beverly Hills After Tweeze Cream: “Even though I wish I could always wax my eyebrows, my bank account doesn’t feel the same way. When I tweeze, I always try to put lotion on right after, but too frequently it burns or doesn’t soothe the way I want it to. This really does the job and it’s adorable pink tube is a lovely plus.” —Kara
Shaveworks™ The Cool Fix™ Targeted Gel Lotion: “I tend to get random ingrowns and all of a sudden my beach vacation was upon me. What to do? Within hours of putting on The Cool Fix, redness and swelling was almost gone. Plus, it feels cool as it goes on!” —Eric
Number 4 Lumiere d’hiver Reconstructing Masque: “This super-hydrating leave-in treatment saves my hair between cuts when my ends are especially dry and brittle.” —Meredith
Twistband Hair Ties: “Talk about a multi-tasker — more often than not, these are stacked on my wrist as bracelets instead of holding up my hair. But wherever they are, I don’t think I’ve gone a day without one since they first landed on my desk.”—Molly
