The Spa at The Peninsula: Guest Blogger

Though we’re New Yorkers, we’ve always had a thing for Chicago—the gorgeous lakefront, the deep dish pizza, the friendly people—plus, one of our editors calls it home! Which is why we’re pumped to bring you a guest blogger series from CheekyChicagoThe online lifestyle magazine is packed with the latest events to attend, restaurants to hit, and of course, places to shop. Lucky for us, Cheeky’s Editor-in-Chief Erica Bethe Levine is imparting her Windy City wisdom all week long.

Anti-aging. Ick. I can’t even accept the fact that I’m of an age where this dirty word is part of my daily vocabulary. Although I take very good care of my skin, use high quality products, and remove my makeup even after a too-much-Champagne kind of night, I am certainly not one to take it to the extreme. Botox? Never! Facelift? As if! But I’m very happy to embrace any sort of skincare treatment that the Peninsula Spa has up its pretty little sleeve.

Top 5 Under-the-Radar NYC Beauty Spots

A word to the wise and well-groomed: in New York City, the spas and salons where you get the most bang for your proverbial buck don’t necessarily have sleek storefronts or vocal celebrity followings. In fact, Birchbox staffers like to frequent tucked-away places guarded by insiders as well-kept secrets. Visit Kiehl’s New Spa 1851 for An Experience Unlike Any Other

Last night, Kiehl’s debuted a new venture that was two years in the making: their very first spa, on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Officially open to the public for business today, Spa 1851 takes the brand’s apothecary cool vibe to the next level. Perched on the second floor of their new boutique store, the spa has three treatment rooms —Apothecary, Rainforest, and Adventure — plus a men’s service area with two barber chairs. The new space is filled with colorful antique curiosities, as well as some serious art. Our favorite treatment room, Rainforest, is covered in a photograph of a Maui rainforest by David LaChapelle.

Beyond the renovations, Kiehl’s has redefined what ‘spa’ means for the brand. Instead of generic treatments, Spa 1851 hand-mixes and customizes all its facials for each individual. Their aestheticians use high concentrations of natural ingredients, including lavender, arnica flower, eucalyptus leaf and ginger root, which give the therapies high-impact results. Don’t expect any traditional soothing music either—but you are encouraged to plug in your own iPod, if you like!

Visit Kiehls.com/spa1851 for a full-service menu and more information. Kiehl’s Spa 1851 is located at 157 East 64th Street at Lexington Ave.
