Avoid ending up on one of Glamour's cringe-worthy Don’t Lists with these dry shampoo guidelines.
Much like vivid red lipstick or potent perfume, dry shampoo can totally backfire if used incorrectly. You know what we mean: sticky, greasy-looking locks and lackluster volume. It takes practice, but once you’ve harnessed the product’s awesome revitalizing powers, it’s a game-changer. Impromptu cocktail hours? Bring ‘em on. Spin class-deflated locks? Fear not. With Serge Normant’s Meta Revive Dry Shampoo as our prime test subject, we’ve put together a compendium of dry shampoo do’s and don’ts.
When it comes to hair, stylist Amalia Moscoso of The Hair Dame knows what she’s talking about. From the latest and greatest products to the hottest celebrity hair trends, Moscoso has a range of expertise which she’ll be sharing all week long right here on the Birchbox blog.
Our scalp naturally produces an oil called sebum that keeps our heads healthy and well-moisturized. Over time, that sebum can build up, leaving you with a greasy look and feel that makes us immediately want to hop in the shower. However, not many people realize that the more often you shampoo, the more often your scalp will get the signal to create extra oil because you’re scrubbing away the scalp’s natural moisturizer.
So what can you do to stop this cycle besides accepting that your hair will be an oily mess on the days you don’t wash? Enter the miracle of dry shampoo.

Transform Flat Hair Into BIG Hair With This Unbelievably Easy Technique
We were in Birchbox heaven when Serge Normant, the man who has styled the hair of celebrities like Reese Witherspoon, Blake Lively, and Julia Roberts, stopped by our studio to show us a few tricks. The celebrity hairstylist gave our very own Katia Beauchamp a step-by-step tutorial for getting Texas BIG hair in literally five minutes. Watch this quick video for the technique.

We get a little bit weak in the knees when it comes to Serge Normant. In fact, we still can’t get over the fact that the stylist to the stars (Blake Lively, Julia Roberts, Gisele Bündchen, among others) touched Birchbox co-founder Katia’s hair. Serge Normant. Touched. Katia’s. Hair.
Thankfully for us mere mortals, we can get an at-home taste of the Tinseltown guru with Normant’s luxe haircare line, which contains KeravisTM, a unique vegetable protein that strengthen strands and repairs damage.
We love the revolutionary products so much that we’re offering an exclusive Serge Normant set—Meta Silk Shampoo, Meta Velour Conditioner, and Meta Luxe Hairspray—during our second Discovery Dash.
But hurry: The promotion only lasts for 24 hours and supplies are limited. Snag your travel-size trio from now until 5 a.m. (ET) tomorrow, February 14—with a limit of two per cart—at a discounted price of $19 (a $30 value).

We’re shooting our February videos today, and one of the highlights of our lineup was a cameo from the famed stylist Serge Normant. Fresh off the plane from L.A. (where he styled Julia Roberts’ hair for the Golden Globes over the weekend), Normant sat down with our co-founder Katia for a step-by-step tutorial.
We obsess over travel-size products, so naturally we were fast friends with the founders of 3Floz.com, a online resource that carries luxury products exclusively in TSA-approved sizes. We sat down with one of the co-founders, Kate Duff, to chat about her booming business as well as her best jet-setting secrets.

Birchbox: What’s the backstory behind 3Floz.com?
Kate Duff: The idea for 3FLoz.com came to Alexi Mintz, my co-founder, and I when we were working at Archipelago Botanicals in Los Angeles and traveling a lot. After a few business trips together, we quickly realized that we had very different traveling styles. Alexi would forgo her beauty regimen while she was traveling and show up with a small carry-on while I, on the other hand, would travel with two huge suitcases so I could look my best while on the road. We soon realized that there was no easy way to get all the beauty products we use regularly in convenient travel-sizes. The idea for 3Floz.com was born.
The dynamic duo behind Beauty Bender, Kathryn Romeyn and Alexis Johnson, have an impeccable eye for deciphering up-and-coming cosmetics trends and finding experts to give the lowdown on how to wear them. (It must be the decade’s worth of magazine curating experience they have between them.) We can’t get enough of their gorgeous site, and happily, for a whole week they’re sharing all of their beauty insight on our blog!

At various times over the years, we’ve flirted with light face-framing fringe, something that changes things up a little, but is easy enough to grow out. But lately, a new heavy-handed version of bangs seems to have taken hold, at least in Hollywood. At the Oscars, bold, blunt-cut and super-thick styles were one of the hottest hair looks on the likes of Rose Byrne, Rooney Mara, Ellie Kemper and Anna Faris. The opulent shine and straight, thick cut were undeniably chic and powerful. “It’s definitely a style that has a certain sex appeal [and is] always youthful,” says star stylist Serge Normant, the namesake of three salons and a luxe haircare line.
