While promoting her soon-to-be-released movie The Avengers, Scarlett Johansson has been showing off a fascinating new tattoo. The New York City native is giving a permanent shout out to her hometown with a delicate design on her wrist: a thin bracelet with a single charm that says ” I <3 NY.” Click through to see it up close!
At last night’s L.A. premiere of The Avengers, Scarlett Johansson kept with the superhero theme of the evening and rocked some seriously booty-kicking hair.
TheGloss is one daily must-reads (right up there with the NY Times). We love the site’s witty approach to style and its smart and irreverent voice. We like the writing so much, in fact, that we’ll be featuring one of their posts each week here on the Birchbox blog.
You know how celebrities love to spill their beauty secrets, even when they have no idea what they’re talking about? Scarlett Johansson is the latest famous to engage in this particular kind of PR, telling Style.com that one of her favorite things to do for her skin is an all-natural honey facial.
“I use Manuka honey,” she said. “You just warm your face so that your pores are open (you can steam your face right after getting out of the shower), and then you just take a spoon and apply the honey directly to your face and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. It really adds an amazing glow and your skin is so soft afterwards. It pulls out the impurities.”
Well – if it’s good enough for Scarlett, it’s good enough for me.

There must be something in the water in Hollywood: yet another starlet has decided to make the switch from blonde to red. Scarlett Johansson attended the White House Correspondent’s Dinner over the weekend sporting a lovely shade of crimson. This makes her the third, by our count, to jump onto the redhead bandwagon (right behind Blake Lively and Drew Barrymore). Since nobody likes a copycat, all three ladies have taken the auburn trend in different directions and made this color their own.
Ruby Red: Very appropriate given that her first name is Scarlett, the actress chose a striking and dramatic shade, with a hint of plum. This is a hard hue to pull off, and we’re thoroughly impressed with her act of hair rebellion.
Strawberry: Blake Lively’s light and airy interpretation channels The Little Mermaid but perfectly suits her fair skin and soft features.
Burgundy: Certainly a trendsetter when it comes to hair (Barrymore was one of the first to adopt the ombre look, too), Drew went with an auburn hue, accentuating her light green eyes and naturally rosy cheeks.

At last night’s Oscars there were plenty of red carpet triumphs (and blunders—I won’t get into that), but the prettiest looks of the evening were all well complimented with to-die-for hairstyles. I’ve rounded up my eight favorites of the night. Click through and scroll to the bottom to cast your vote for the best hair!
Mila Kunis: She blew me away on all fronts: her dress, her makeup, her physique. If I had a pick for overall prettiest of the evening, I would absolutely choose her—no doubt about it. I especially loved how the star’s romantic updo perfectly complimented her super-feminine Ellie Saab stunner. Bravo, Mila! Bravo!

Is it us or was last night’s show a snooze? Really, between James Franco’s dazed countenance (what on earth is he on?) and the lack of drama, we were almost wishing Kanye would show up to shake things up. As for the fashion, there were some definite wins (and fails), but all in all, it was a pretty low energy lot. Here, our completely subjective picks and pans:
Misplaced Accessories: A tie. First, there was Amy Adams, whose ’90s-style lariat necklace marred an otherwise inoffensive Starry Night-inspired dress. And then Gwyneth Paltrow, who looked positively stunning (is that what a vegan diet does for you?) and toned in a molten metallic Calvin Klein dress—except for that strange brooch anchoring her hip. Minus that, she was a major win.
Role Model: We know, we’re like Helen Mirren fan girls over here. But really, she is just an absolute stunner—and endlessly classy. We could all take a few lessons from her.
Lessons in Lace: Scarlett Johansson’s boho waves and simple makeup looked dreamy, but her eggplant Dolce & Gabbana lace dress reminded us too much of grandma’s curtains. Mila Kunis, on the other hand, was spot on in her frothy Elie Saab number. The lavender worked perfectly against her skin tone, and the peekaboo aspect of the lace kept it from being too froufrou.
Age Approps: True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld looked like a darling princess in her nude Marchesa gown, and held her own on the red carpet. We’re predicting big things from this mega-talented 14-year-old (here’s hoping she stars in the upcoming Hunger Games adaptation!).
A+ for Effort: Co-host Anne Hathaway clocked in a whopping eight costume changes — no small feat, considering the majority of the dresses were impressively form-fitting. What does it say about her choices that our favorite was her adorable tuxedo?
