One of the best things about previewing fall collections in February? The makeup trends that are meant to be worn in autumn are actually seasonally appropriate for these last few days of winter. Before the official onset of spring and warmer weather, here are the five fashion week-inspired looks that we’re trying right now. Which one is your favorite?

Over the last few fashion weeks, nails have become just as important as the hair and makeup. This past season was no exception and we were delighted by all the bold colors and creative designs that we spied. After taking it all in, we’ve narrowed down all the incredible looks to our top three favorites. Will you be trying any of these trends?
1) Studs: Deborah Lippmann for Kate Spade NY
The bright pink talons at Kate Spade NY perfectly matched the Pop Art-and NYC-inspired fall collection. We’re definitely picking up some metallic pyramids to affix to our nails ASAP. Plus, we can almost guarantee we’ll be seeing more almond-shaped nails on celebrities and trendsetters this fall. In fact, Deborah Lippmann called it the “nail shape of the season.”
2) Oil Slick Motif: Essie for Rebecca Minkoff
These multi-tonal oil slick nails were not only pretty—according to the lead manicurist Michelle Saunders they were so easy to do that one of the models did her own nails. Click through to see how to get the look yourself.
3) Picture Framing: Color Club for Charlotte Ronson
The nails at Charlotte Ronson’s show are always inspiring. Remember last season’s wave nails? This season, nail artist Simcha Whitehill (aka Miss Pop) created picture frame nails that really stood out. Whitehill gave us the deets on creating the look ourselves and having tried it with some success, we feel confident that with a little practice, this style isn’t too hard to do.

Birchbox staffers fell head over heels in love with Amanda Seyfried’s makeup at this weekend’s Oscars Award show. It’s romantic, it’s dramatic, and we can’t stop staring. Earlier this month we were also wowed by the purple-blue jewel tone eyes on the models at Jason Wu and Thakoon’s shows at New York Fashion Week. Inspired by the models on the runway, we enlisted celebrity makeup artist Ana Marie to give us a step-by-step tutorial on a more wearable version of the jewel tone eye using Lancôme products.
Watch below for the tutorial, which just happens to look like a slightly more dramatic version of Amanda Seyfried’s eye look at Sunday’s show!

We approach scents much like we do our wardrobe: mixing, matching, and rotating fragrances throughout the season. Is it any wonder that our favorite fashion looks tend to influence both our outfits and our spritzes? While reporting at the Fall/Winter 2013 shows, we spotted three trends that we can’t wait to add to our closets. And since we’re never ones to selectively shop, here are the fragrances that will be joining our fragrance wardrobe.

We loved New York Fashion Week’s attention-grabbing beauty trends like burgundy lips and messy halo braids. But in the midst of all the big, bold looks for this fall, there was one beauty product that was conspicuously absent on many of the runways: mascara. DKNY, Lacoste, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and several other shows featured models with clean lashes that drew attention away from the eyes and instead focused it on features like flawless skin or pouty lips. We admittedly feel a bit naked without a quick swipe of mascara before heading out the door, but this new modern look has us considering leaving the makeup bag staple behind and trying something different.

Some of her latest accomplishments: starring in the current Akris and Givenchy Beauty ad campaigns and walking in the Armani Privé and Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture shows last month in Paris. The Canadian beauty headed to the Big Apple for New York Fashion Week and did her second backstage photo diary for us, a collection of supercool pics from a model’s perspective!

For New York Fashion Week Fall 2013, we couldn’t have landed a better nail correspondent (put that title on a business card!). Taryn Multack, the genius behind Miss Ladyfinger, initially started her blog as a way to translate fashion trends to manicures. Since those early days, she’s partnered with top designers and brands. She’ll be reporting all of next season’s must-try hues and designs.
Walking into the backstage area before the Milly show, anyone else might have noticed the models. Not me. I spied the holographic pieces of the collection from across the room and immediately started salivating. I went closer for a better look, and there was so much to see. Digitized prints, new fabrications, and the aforementioned holographic items were to die for, so it was no surprise the nail look was a little more subdued.
Michelle Saunders, lead manicurist for Essie, smiled at me as I was envisioning all the nail art I could make from the show. “I know there’s a lot we could have done in the way of nail art for this collection, but we wanted something that would help make the collection shine,” she admitted. The result was Power Clutch by Essie—a dark neutral gray with green undertones—inspired by menswear.
According to Michelle, picking the right gray is less about skin tone and more about the season. “For spring, you can play with lighter grays, like dove and French grays, but for fall, pick darker ones.” To get the look, apply two coats of Power Clutch and top it with Good to Go by Essie.

At New York Fashion Week Fall 2013, the insanely cool outfits, spot-on make up, and lush locks outside the shows impressed us just as much as the trends we peeped backstage. And considering the crazy weather (including a little storm called Nemo), it took a lot of work to look impeccably chic. As an ode to the gorgeous ladies who nailed it—in sky-high heels, naturally—we put together a slideshow of our favorite beauty looks.
1. Sea of Shoes’ Jane Aldridge rocked vivid strawberry-blond hair and bright lips.
2. Samantha, an Assistant Editor at WGSN, paired blunt bangs with barely there face makeup and a classic red pout.
3. Model Mariana protected her sensitive skin and dyed locks from sun damage with ginormous designer shades and a cozy fur hat.
4. Fashion blogger Kim (pictured at right) pulled off impressive retro-inspired cat eyes.
5. Seventeen Accessories Editor Jasmine kept it casual with a sleek topknot.
6. Kelly opted for slicked back strands—and yes, of course, she’s a model.
7. Just when we though ombre hair was quickly becoming passé, we crossed paths with Serena. The foodie and fashion blogger made the look seem totally fresh.
