The Suede-Wrapped Ponys At Monique Lhuillier Were Entirely Too Cool

Usually when ribbon is used in hair, it’s fastened into a girlish bow around a ponytail, but such was not the case at Monique Lhuillier’s fall 2013 show. Kerastase’s lead stylist Odile Gilbert and her army of assistants used black suede ribbon in a very creative way to achieve low twisty knots that were completely wrapped in the fabric.

Gilbert and her team created the elegant ‘dos by first misting the models’ hair with water. After adding a deep side part, the wet hair was pulled back into a low ponytail and secured with an elastic. Finally, buttery suede ribbon was wrapped around the pony  and then the pony was twisted up into a chic knot and secured with bobby pins. Any stray strands were smoothed down with Kerastase’s DOUBLE FORCE hairspray. Odile explained that the resulting look was, “elegant without being too understated.” We couldn’t agree more.
