Let the countdown to spring begin! March 20th is officially the first day of the season, which makes now the perfect time to refresh your beauty look.

To help inspire you, we’ve created a new Shop category, called Get the Look, that lets you shop all of the biggest trends in one convenient place. From mega-big hair to bold blue eye makeup, check out what’s hot for spring and then pick up all the products you need to get these covetable looks!

Oh, and don’t forget to scroll through the behind-the-scene pics of the spring photo shoot above. It was as fun as it was pretty!

Another spring trend that you should know about? Emerald. Here’s how to wear Pantone’s 2013 color of the year.

The Beauty Trend With No End in Sight

Sayonara, sparkles! Birchbox staffer Deepica, scores an even, totally velvety complexion courtesy of Jouer’s MMT in Hazel. She looks runway-worthy, no? And Deepica isn’t the only one digging a shine-free visage. The matte makeup movement was originally spotted on the fall runways but shows no signs of abating.

Back in the day (circa 2002), we used a combination of primer, foundation, setting powder, and blotting papers to keep any hint of dewiness at bay. All those products also conspired to give our skin an unflatteringly flat look. Happily we’ve come a long way since then and so have our products.

We’re smitten with Jouer’s lightweight Matte Moisture Tint, which creates multidimensional finish while also hydrating thirsty complexions. (Spoiler alert: some of our subscribers will get to sample MMT this month!) Never powdery, it provides more coverage than its luminizing counterpart and stays fresh all day long. It also has SPF 15 to keep skin protected.

But we haven’t given up our Luminizing Moisture Tint altogether. We still turn to the LMT when we want to up the radiance. We don’t see anything wrong with having two valentines.

How To: Get the New Matte Finish

It’s easy to write off matte skin once the colder months start to fade away. But at the Spring/Summer 2013 runway shows, makeup artists revealed a fresh-looking, updated version of matte: velvety, shine-free complexions that were perfectly paired with airy warm weather attire. To pull off this trendy look without relying too heavily on setting powder, we asked celebrity makeup artist Dora Salgado for her top tips.

Here’s everything you need to know about getting the new matte finish.

One of the easiest ways to achieve this coveted matte finish? A mattifying tinted moisturizer like Jouer’s Matte Moisture Tint.

Nailing It: Matte Matters (Part 1)

Operations associate, Loren, has a thing for nails—and we can’t blame her. We love reading about new finishes and fun techniques, so we thought we’d give her a weekly slot on our blog to wax poetic about all things manicure (and pedicure!) related. Check back every Thursday for Nailing It, Birchbox’s dedicated polish series.

I recently became bored of my normal top coat’s shiny finish and decided to go in a different direction…matte! Regular matte polishes have this finish built-in (Zoya’s Mod Matte Collection is one of my latest favorites). But matte top coats are a whole different thing — they can make a funky mani even funkier with just one coat!

I like using matte top coats with glittery half moon manis, which it gives an antique-y feel, and matte French tips. Pick up a top coat like Essie’s Matte About You and start experimenting.
