How To: Spice Up Your Nail Wraps

Earlier this week, I commented to fellow operations associate Alexandra that her neutral manicure looked great. She told me that she just had nail wraps applied at a salon. For those of you who are looking to strengthen your nails without the damaging side effects of acrylics, nail wraps might be a future favorite for you. Nail wraps look much more natural than acrylic nails and can make your manicure last for weeks.

A few days after I had paid Alexandra the compliment on her durable manicure, I noticed that her nails looked different and that she was sporting nail art. I asked her why she had gotten rid of her wraps, but it turns out that she hadn’t. She had just painted over them.

Mani Expert Susan Nam’s Best At-Home Mani Tip

Zoya display at Polished Beauty Bar

Hot off the heels of our epic NARS store field trip, we took another jaunt yesterday morning to Polished Beauty Bar on the Upper West Side. Our friends at Well and Good alerted us to this hyper-clean salon, which has the biggest selection of eco-conscious Zoya polishes in the city. Owner Susan Nam was nice enough to let us chat her ear off about everything from polish mixing to nail art. We’ll have much more on that soon, but first: a tip too good to keep to ourselves:

If you ever mess up your polish — bumpy, lumpy — don’t take it off and start from scratch. Instead, let it dry completely, and then use a regular file to gentle shave down the problem area. When it’s smooth (ideally you’ll only take off the topmost layer of polish so there will still be color below), use a buffer to brush the entire nail. Finish with a top coat. Susan demo-ed this and the polish was miraculously perfect - no need for reapplication!
