Makeup Tips for Looking Fabulous Straight off a Plane

Over the next few weeks it seems like everyone in the Birchbox office is jetting off somewhere fun. Ally is in Equador right now (lucky!), editor Candice has been working from San Francisco this weekend, and even I’m heading off to Denver in a few days for a friend’s wedding. Summer really is our favorite time to get out of the office and enjoy some sun.

Unfortunately I usually step off the plane looking like death warmed over (especially if it’s more than a few hours long flight) and I know I’m not alone. The last thing I want to do while traveling is worry about a full makeup routine, so this month we asked makeup artist Nam Vo to share a few really easy tricks for looking downright amazing when you step off the plane. Throw these products (all under TSA’s 3.4 FL OZ limit) in your carry-on and you’ll be fresher and more polished when you step off the plan than when you stepped on. Happy traveling!

Totally Mind-Blowing: Jeremy Renner, Action Hero and Makeup Artist?

How jazzed would you be to have this guy give you a smoky eye before a big night out? (photo: guardian.co.uk)

We’re used to seeing Jeremy Renner playing tough guy action parts in movies like The Bourne LegacyThe Hurt Locker, and The Avengers. Little did we know that before he achieved mainstream success, the actor supported himself as a makeup artist. Renner revealed his former job to Access Hollywood in April saying, “I could do makeup because I did theater…I could paint and I could draw, so I’m like, ‘OK, I’ll do makeup on girls all day.’” It’s a pretty brilliant strategy, which makes us wonder why more actors don’t earn money doing makeup instead of waiting tables. Read on for Renner’s best makeup tip:

Nicki Minaj Feels Naked Without Falsies: Notable Quotables

Notable Quotables is a weekly series featuring a great quote. Whether it’s the founder of a beloved beauty brand, an eccentric makeup artist making headlines, or even a super-stylish celebrity, our favorite tastemakers always have something worth sharing. Today’s quote is from Nicki Minaj, who spoke with Elle about her wigs, eccentric makeup, favorite products and more.

My eyes, because they’re the one thing I need my makeup artist to do. I don’t have the patience, my hands shake, and I mess everything up. So my makeup artist has to do my brows and lids and lashes. Everyone knows I’m a lash girl by now. When I don’t have my lashes, I feel naked.

Even if you’re not a makeup nut like Nicki, a colorful liner from stila will give you a fresh new look.
