On a recent trip to the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics flagship store, we discovered their line of amazing makeup brushes. We’re big fans of these animal-friendly options (made from nylon and taklon) because they’re perfectly formed in hard-to-find shapes that make shadow application particularly easy.

We’ll admit it—there’s a contingent of Birchboxers in the office who are Lauren Conrad fangirls. A quick shout-out to the Girls in the Beauty Department over at Glamour. They scouted this picture of Olivia Wilde looking fresh-faced and oh-so-pretty at last week’s Tribeca Film Festival Awards. The star, who appears in the upcoming film Rush (due out in 2013), went makeup free to a night event—and we have to say we’ve got an even bigger girl crush on her now than we did before. We love a girl who can pull off both a glam red-carpet style and a cute, laidback look like this (sans makeup or hair product), at a shindig like the Tribeca Film Festival. It inspires us to try heading out for a night on the town without getting über-gussied up, too.

We’ve always been fans of country songstress Carrie Underwood, but now we love her even more. One of the original American Idol winners (her debut album has gone platinum seven times), Underwood has been an amazing live performer since the beginning. But we just found out an incredible fun fact about the gorgeous blonde: she does all her on-stage hair and makeup looks herself.
Hot on the heels of Refinery 29’s purple makeup story, our own Katia showed up at the office wearing violet lips. The amazingly flattering shade is Lancome’s Rouge in Love in Violette Coquette. Suffice to say, we’re all planning on running out and buying it ASAP.

This year, I made a promise to myself: I would use more color in my makeup routine. I’ve been stuck in the neutral eye shadow phase for a long time because bold eye shadow can be intimidating.
Maybe you’re thinking the same thing. Don’t worry—I’m here to help you (and me). The first thing to remember is to have fun with it! Step out of your comfort zone and try something new. But also keep in mind: You’re not performing on stage, so makeup doesn’t need to be super bold.

Top-notch designer Marc Jacobs, known for his feminine clothing designs and coveted handbags, is teaming up with Sephora to launch a cosmetics line. Jacobs, who already has fragrances like the soon-to-be-released Dot (slated for July), is in the planning stages for a set of color products.
