At first glance, you might think that Kathy Ong’s Beauty Palette blog is just your average beauty blog—but you’d be wrong. The underlying theme behind everything that she covers is this: what you put on your face is just as important as what you put into your body. In her own words, “a defining aspect of beauty is nutrition.” Hear hear! This week, she’s sharing her best beauty tips—for both inside and out—on the Birchbox blog.
Given the never ending cold weather, I thought it would be the perfect time to give you a quick update about what I’ve been reaching for day in and day out this season. Moisturizer is my best friend in the winter and if I am not diligent about using it, my normally dry flaky skin can veer into blotchy hypersensitive skin.
One of the many amazing things about the TEDWomen conference was that it brought together creative, brilliant women from around the world. We were psyched to hang out with Rebecca Kousky, the founder of Nest, a nonprofit that aids female artisans around the world with an innovative combination of microfinance loans, mentorship, and retail exposure. The Nest Shop has plenty of treats (I’m in love with these cheery Guatemalan journals) and they’re constantly adding more products. It’s a great way to score one-of-a-kind gifts (for yourself or others) while doing good. Recently, Nest has partnered with another woman-founded business, Kahina Giving Beauty. Kahina has a line of gorgeous Argan Oil products from Morocco and donates 25% of the profits from the sales back to the Berber women communities. Kahina and Nest have teamed up to create this beautiful gift set: a block-printed case hand-stitched by formerly trafficked women in India that contains Kahina Argan Oil and Argan Bar Soap. Say you heard about it through Nest and Kahina will donate an extra $5 to the organization’s causes!
