Great makeup selections, haircare essentials, awesome polishes, and so much more that can be gifted all year long.
Our Beauty Pulse Survey revealed an interesting stat: women love receiving beauty-oriented surprises. It may be time to take down the tinsel and turn off the Christmas lights, but as gifters and beauty fanatics we love to surprise our Mamas throughout the year. We’ve all come a long way from the days of Play-Doh-shaped lipsticks and compacts as presents, but that doesn’t mean finding the right beauty loot is easy.
Rather than spending countless hours in the beauty aisle or surrendering to the siren call of a gift card, give mom something sweetly scented, brightly colored, or totally luxurious. These 10 sensational options will (secretly) have mom referring to you as her favorite child:
Leave it to chic British fashion label Libertine to dream up this cheeky hair style. A neon orange faux fringe was paired with contrasting magenta feathered hair pieces to transform models into walking works of art at yesterday night’s show.
First, Kérastase lead stylist Odile Gilbert prepped models’ locks with Kérastase’s Mousse Substantive to pump up the volume. Before flat ironing, stylists applied a protective coating of Ciment Thermique. Once the clip on fringe was added, each models’ hair was lightly misted with Kérastase’s Double Force hairspray to keep each strand (real and fake) in place.
MAC Cosmetics’ lead stylist Chantel Miller rounded out the look with matte, even skin and smoldering smoky eyes. The result was just as playful as Libertines’ collection of colorful prints and bold patterns.
For healthy hair all season long add Kérastase’s fortifying Elixir Ultime to your regimen.

The Show: Monique Lhuillier
The Makeup: Val Garland for M.A.C.
The Hair: Odile Gilbert for Kérastase
The Nails: Wanda Ruiz for CND
The Vibe: Modern glamor. Don’t let lead stylist Odlie Gilbert for Kérastase catch you calling the hair at Monique Lhuillier retro. “It’s anything but,” said Gilbert at yesterday’s show. That’s not to say that the style—slicked back on top and falling into classic waves—doesn’t have “a touch of Hollywood.” Gilbert achieved the look by curling the length of models’ hair with a curling iron and then brushing it out to create a soft wave. To achieve the sleek finish up top, stylists alternated spraying two hairsprays, Double Force for build-able hold and Double Force Controle Ultime for extra-strength hold, on sections and then brushing down.
The Show: Creatures of the Wind
Hair: Odile Gilbert for Kérastase
Makeup: James Boehmer for NARS
The Vibe: At the Creatures of the Wind show yesterday afternoon, the theme of magic versus reality and nature was present in everything. James Boehmer, lead makeup artist for NARS, pulled inspiration from the “contrast between what’s the real world and what’s the magic world. And the makeup is definitely the magic world.” To achieve that magic, Boehmer used a moisturizer from the brand’s skincare collection (relaunching in Fall 2012) and a very sheer foundation to give models “lit from within skin.” The eyes were strong, with what he called an “almost 90’s shape.” Finally, they used a rose gold shadow to “gild the inner corner of the eye, eyebrow and the lip.”
