John Varvatos to Launch Star USA Fragrance: You’ve Got Male

Once a week, Birchbox’s resident Yoga and men’s product expert, Eric, will gives us girls some insight into his world in You’ve Got Male. Whether he’s giving his expertise on skincare (boys need advice, too!) or highlighting his new favorite grooming trend, this guy has got taste—so we’re lucky he’s on staff and willing to share.

I’ve long been a fan of the John Varvatos brand. His clothing designs are chic, updated takes on classic pieces. His Eau de Toilette is a go-to in my fragrance collection, and his shave collection is a fun splurge when I’m feeling indulgent. So, needless to say, I was very excited when I heard that he would be launching another fragrance as part of his Star USA line. In a meeting today, I got a sneak preview (well, really more like a whiff) of the scent and I must say, it’s amazing. I can’t divulge too much, but I what I can say is that the packaging is clever (the bottle is inspired by an old-fashioned canister with a spring-loaded top) and the scent is subtle and masculine while still being playful and casual. Varvatos said he used this fragrance as an opportunity to push boundaries and make a departure from what he’s done with scents in the past. I especially love the fragrance’s ad campaign featuring a man’s hand giving a peace sign because it’s a bit trippy: only upon closer inspection do you realize that he has six fingers. Launching in September, be sure to check this new product out.
