Reading List: Jill Stuart x Gangnam Style, Vacations To Lust After, and Greek Yogurt Impostors

One of four gorgeous (and simple) beauty looks you should try out this fall. (photo: Self)
  • Hold the phone. Greek yogurt at the supermarket might not really be Greek. Since there are no government regulations for labeling food “Greek,” yogurt you think is extra healthy might be all smoke and mirrors. Learn how to separate the Greek from the weak. [Women’s Health
  • The last-ever space shuttle, Endeavor, has touched down for the last time. After flying over California this morning, the shuttle landed at LAX and will go on permanent display at the California Science Center on October 30th. [My Fox LA
  • Kate Spade NY just debuted cute new city guides for 10 cities (with more to come!) in collaboration with the travel experts at Fathom. Now we want to plan a trip to Tokyo, or Tahiti, or Copenhagen! [Kate Spade NY
  • Cute in theory, but bound to end badly: a Canadian man has flown all the way to Ireland to find (and fall in love with) a local woman he got directions from a year ago. The only problem? They spoke for five minutes and he doesn’t know her name. Hm. [Jezebel]
  • Fall makeup doesn’t have to be hard to apply. These four different looks are easy-as-pie. The hard part will be choosing which one to wear first. [Self

  • In a totally unexpected partnership, New York designer Jill Stuart has joined forces with K-pop star Psy (of Gangnam Style fame) on a collection to be released in Asia. [Fashionista]

VIDEO: Stila’s Bold Autumn Eye Shadow Tutorial

Even though it’s technically still summer, we’re getting ready to transition our makeup routine into fall. Luckily, we convinced stila's celebrity makeup artist and Fashion Week superstar, Sarah Lucero, to show us a matte eyeshadow look to wear throughout the season. Don't be intimidated by the orange shade, it's surprisingly flattering and more wearable than you would think.

Easy Ways to Keep Your Look Fresh

I started wearing makeup back in ninth grade. This was during my Hot Topic goth phase, so I loaded pale foundation, black eyeliner, and blood red lipstick onto my face with the enthusiasm of a kindergartener with a brand new set of Crayolas. Nowadays, I’ve toned down the Dracula mask, but my basic makeup has stayed the same: winged liner and cherry lips. I guess you could say I’m stuck in a beauty rut. With this in mind, I’ve realized that everyone (including myself) can benefit from re-examining their routine. Whether you’re content with your signature look or you’re ready to shake things up, small changes can make a big difference.

Major Fall Makeup Trend: Intoxicating Orange Eyes

Clockwise top left: Rodarte fall 2011; Armani Prive fall 2011 couture stila eyeshadow in Mimosa, $18, birchbox.com; Donna Karan fall 2011

Now that it’s October, fall is officially in full swing and that means trying out some new trends. One that I am particularly excited about this season is orange eyes, seen on the runways at Rodarte, Armani Prive, and Donna Karan. My take on the look will involve stila’s Mimosa shadow, a hue that’s bright in a distinctly autumn kind of way. I’d pair the shade with a neutral lip and very little other makeup (perhaps a touch of bronzer for some warmth) to ensure that my eyes were the main focus. Given that Halloween is just around the corner (can you believe it!?!), this is an easy way to experiment with pumpkin-y color.

Sneak Peek: Jouer’s Mad Men-Inspired Fall Collection

Everyday Classic Wear Mascara, $20, jouercosmetics.com; Liquid Shimmer Eyeliner, $22, jouercosmetics.com; Travel Eyelash Curler, $14, jouercosmetics.com; Hydrating Lipstick in Dusty, $22, jouercosmetics.com.

With Mad Men’s fifth season delayed, fans of the AMC drama are slipping into vintage style withdrawal. Where are the nipped-waist dresses and fabulous cocktail gowns? The starkly glamorous makeup looks? The unending stream of martinis and Manhattans? While we await the show’s return, there’s a new way to get our fix: Jouer’s Mad About Fall collection. Launching September 1, the collection is an update on the pretty retro look: a fresh face with subtle shimmery liquid liner and a nude lip. The four-piece launch includes their new Liquid Shimmer Eyeliner, Everyday Classic Wear Mascara, Travel Eyelash Curler, and Hydrating Lipstick in Dusty. Of all the products, I’m most smitten with the liquid liner, which comes in three shades: Fox, a dark navy gray; Sable, a sheer eggplant; and Mink, a deep taupe. I’ve been experimenting with them and they’re incredibly easy and fun to use. The velvety formula delivers a smooth, concentrated line of pigment that looks dramatic without being harsh. If you’re less agile with liquid liner, you can just smudge it to get an equally pretty smoky look. I think Betty Draper would approve.
