Sun damage, humidity, and dryness are no match for this restorative hair oil.
One of our biggest beauty hangups is dry, damaged hair. Aside from all the coloring, heat-styling and teasing that we normally do, we also spent the long July fourth weekend frolicking in salty waves and mushing our strands into every kind of bun imaginable. Our poor hair! It must feel like rockabilly singer Eddie Cochran hit the nail on the head when he crooned, “There ain’t no cure for the summertime blues.”
But, fortunately for our seriously distressed locks, we have found a solution: I.C.O.N.’s nourishing India Oil, which some subscribers will be receiving in their July Birchboxes!
We first became enamored with Annie Dean earlier this year after stumbling across her site AnnieDean.com. Combining tips for entertaining and etiquette, this modern day Miss Manners proves that you can juggle a hectic lifestyle (did we mention she’s a lawyer?) and still be ultra chic. This week she’s sharing her five easy tricks to make spring a little more fabulous.
Here’s a secret: Essential oils are the best way to make your home feel a little extra glam and to keep your guests wondering how you manage to have everything in your home smell so fantastically clean. Whole Foods, and many health stores, offer a variety of essential oils for $10 or less. You’ll only need a drop or two for each use, so these little bottles pack a big punch. After you’ve cleaned up, rub two drops of essential oil into your countertop for a deliciously fresh scent that will last for hours. And don’t stop there.
As long as I can remember, I have never been into fragrance. I don’t like it on myself, on my significant other, or on the gentlemen sitting next to me on the subway. No matter how many perfumes I try, I always have the same reaction: it smells like rubbing alcohol. Even a single spritz is too much for me to handle. But every season, when I hear about fragrance launches from Calvin Klein, Kim Kardashian, and everyone in between, I feel a little left out. As a self-described “beauty enthusiast,” I feel as like I am putting my title to shame by being fragrance-free. With a little research, I found great options for other sensitive sniffers:
We love the idea of Truth Art Beauty, the brand-new customized skincare line. Yesterday, we asked founders Caron Proschan and Emily Graham to tell us about the perfect blends for their particular skin; today, they’re sharing their latest favorite ingredients. Skincare junkies, you need to read this.
Ingredient I’m Obsessed With (And Why)
Caron: It’s so hard to choose one! But given how harsh this winter has been, I’ve been obsessing for the past few months over Pumpkin. Not only does it help with refining texture, it is a lovely moisturizer, rich and velvety, and is also filled with antioxidants.
Emily: Red Raspberry. It’s hard to find a meaningful concentration of Raspberry in most products because it’s such a premium ingredient. This especially versatile oil is rich enough for dryer skin and night use but also easily absorbable for daytime. I love that it provides natural sun protection because I try to avoid the chemicals in most sunscreens but also need to protect my fair skin.
Everyone Should Try…
Caron: Face oil. For all those who haven’t converted…once you go to oil, you don’t go back! My skin looks so much healthier ever since I started using it. And no, it won’t clog pores! It just creates this amazing, dewy glow. You really see an immediate effect.
Emily: Creating your own blend! This allows you to tailor your product specifically to your needs. It’s also a lot of fun. I probably have five different Body Salve blends in my bathroom right now. Some are lighter for daytime, others are richer for when my skin is super dry. I also love experimenting with different scents. Ylang Ylang is my current favorite - it has a sexy, not-too-sweet, floral scent – perfect in the evenings after a warm bath.
