Learn how to create a floral crown with these six awesome DIY examples.
We can hardly believe it, but May is already here—and that can only mean one thing: May Day! This bright spring festival is celebrated throughout the Northern hemisphere, and festivities often include dancing around a maypole and crowning one lucky lady the May Queen.
While we all can’t be official festival queens, we can feel like one with our own flower crowns. Fake or real, these crowns are incredibly easy to make yourself, and can be made from any variety of colors or blossoms. Not sure where to start? Here are 6 DIY crown tutorials that you can either follow to a T or simply use as floral inspiration:
1. Kelli Murray
I love how big this crown is and that Kelli Murray used only pastel tones for a more subdued version. Sophia Coppola would approve.
2. bleubird vintage
James at bleubird put this bright crown together for around $15 and had lots of leftover supplies. Crown making party, anyone?
3. Refinery29
DIY superstar Kiersten Stevens and Refinery29 teamed up to create this colorful headpiece that works for both brides-to-be and festival attendees.
4. I Spy DIY
I’m a fan of this crown because it’s really simple and made with fresh flowers! It’s perfect to wear at a picnic or a weekend farmer’s market.
5. Honestly…WTF
This is by far my favorite of the bunch. I love how they group the flowers into mini bouquets to make the building process easier and quicker to rearrange.
6. hellobee
Daisy chains aren’t just for kids! (Remember those from elementary school?) Take it back to the playground with this wire-free crown from hellobee.

The princess roll hairstyle would look downright royal with the addition of a floral crown. Just be sure to place all your flowers toward the front!

Wallpaper always felt like one of those things best left to crafty design bloggers and nesting homeowners—i.e, not 20-somethings living in shoebox-sized apartments. But that’s about to change, thanks to Chasing Paper, a new line of stunning, high-quality removable wallpaper. Launched by Elizabeth Rees, the company is all about design and choice. And these gorgeous papers aren’t just for walls—Rees gave us beginner-friendly ways you can brighten up your living space. Read on.
Chasing Paper was created in the conversations with serial-movers, stylish mamas, renters who feel like anything but, those with a hate-hate relationship with white walls, and, of course, DIYers. It’s high design meets no-commitment, no-hassle, change-your-mind-as-many-times-as-you-want-to. We offer beautifully rich and textured paper that is sold in 2 foot by 4 foot panels. It finally allows people to tackle small projects that have a big impact at an affordable price. And while Chasing Paper is great for dressing up your white walls, that’s not all….
1. The Dresser: Maybe it’s survived a few moves and now you have to strategically place flowers and design books to cover nicks and scratches. Give it new life (and style) by covering the top or lining the drawers. You can change the paper whenever you like, or perhaps after your next move!
2. The Backsplash: You probably never noticed the little wall behind your sink or below your cabinets, but once you cover it with a fun print it’ll be a showstopper. Just wipe the paper down if things get a bit messy.
3. The Great Frame Up: So you can’t afford fancy art—no worries! Just pick a panel of Chasing Paper and frame it or just put it right on your wall—you’ll have interesting, impactful, and affordable art.
4. The Ikea Table: It’s practical and small, and heck, it was only $10 at Ikea. Why not dress it up and make it original?
5. The Original Accent Wall: We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the old standby in the wallpapering world: the accent wall. Just choose a spot and a pattern!
Another way to give your home a spring refresh: our new Birchbox Home: From the Garden collection, filled with seasonal items.
We’ve avoided houseplants in the past (NYC apartments are crammed enough as is), but The Sill is changing the way that we buy and display greenery. The start-up specializes in appropriately city-size (read: small) succulents and plants. In honor of our recently launched Birchbox Home: From the Garden collection, we asked Eliza, the company’s founder, and Erin, the social media manager, to bring their plant know-how to our blog.

We do a lot of potting and repotting here at the office, but with spring finally here, it’s time to do some at home. Plants typically need to be repotted every year to 18 months and the best time for this is before the growth season in late winter or early spring. Not surprisingly, this task has been added to our spring cleaning to-do list, and it usually gets checked off first!
It’s a common misconception that repotting means putting the plant in an entirely new pot. In a lot of cases, it’s really just an opportunity to change the soil or potting mix. (This is great news if you love your planter and better news if you’re looking to splurge on a really nice one!) If you are changing pots though, keep it roughly the same size, meaning no more than two inches, smaller or larger.
Need some help? Don’t stress! Follow our simple how-to and check this item off of your to-dos!
