We love when beauty brands open boutiques, especially when the brand is as chic as L’OCCITANE en Provence. The French company has moved into New York’s Meatpacking District, which has getting better and better ever since the Highline and Standard Hotel moved in. The new location is opening its doors at 48 9th Avenue (near 14th St) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony tomorrow evening.
The boutique will be a new design for the brand. Managing Director of L’OCCITANE USA (and ribbon cutter), Leela Petrakis says, “In keeping with the feel of the neighborhood, we’re unveiling a totally new design concept that marries the gritty origins of the surroundings with the Provençal heritage of the brand. The store is a major element of our focus on New York City this year, bringing Provençal beauty to one of the chicest cities in the world.”
If you’re in the city tomorrow, stop by to see the brand-new store! The first 100 customers to make a purchase will receive a special Meatpacking gift set.

One of the most important people in our office is our Operations Associate, Bianca. She talks to our members all day, answers hundreds of customer service emails, and makes sure boxes are heading straight to your doorstep as soon as possible. Basically, we’d be lost without her! Despite her busy, busy schedule she took a few minutes to share all the fun products hanging out on her desk.
Ethos H2O- Hydration is key! A 23.7 FL OZ of Ethos is not nearly enough daily water intake but its refreshing AND it helps children around the world get clean water.

Birchbox HQ is a flutter with preparations for our hair feather party tonight (pictures TK!) and no one is busier than our PR Guru and party planner, Claire Paull. I snagged a few minutes of her time to share all the fun things taking up space on her desk today, including a few must-haves and some special items for tonight’s party. Click through for the special notebooks she uses to stay uber organized and more!
In case you couldn’t tell by our posts earlier, today was video shoot day at Birchbox! That means arriving extra early to our studio, going through scripts, setting up the perfect camera angles, and best of all…having makeup artist Nam Vo work her magic! We thought we’d take the opportunity to show you Nam’s desk o’ makeup. This is a lot for even us to take in!
1. Notice the amazing set of Jouer cream eyeshadows near the center of the image? Color us insanely jealous - Nam actually has the entire Jouer makeup collection to use on her editorial shoots.
2. Another Birchbox favorite, the Laura Mercier Transluscent Powder mattifies our shiny foreheads so we look as polished at the end of the day as we did at 8AM. Quite a feat for a single product.
3. Smashbox High Definition Foundation smooths our models’ skin and gets them ready for filming in HD. No visible pores here!
Holy makeup brushes, Batman!

Happy “day after St. Patricks Day!” With the lovely weather currently descending, it’s really beginning to feel like spring! Among other things, that means I’m well on the way to needing a bit of spring cleaning, particularly on my desk! Before I put everything back in its place though, I thought I’d share what I’m trying out right now.
We’re long-time fans of legendary skincare brand Erno Laszlo so we already knew the company had a rich history full of celebrity fans and devoted clients. But when we started researching Erno Laszlo and his eponymous brand for this month’s story, we found out more about the eccentric dermatologist than we expected! The Hungarian-born Laszlo took a no nonsense approach towards skin care, even when dealing with the classic starlets who swore by his treatments – we’re talking Ava Gardner, Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Kennedy, Greta Garbo, Audrey Hepburn, Katherine Hepburn, to name a few.
Legend says, when Gardner attended appointments with Laszlo, he knew, just by looking at her skin, that she hadn’t been following his regimen to the T. When she lied to him about it, he promptly asked her to leave and not return until she followed his instructions. Now that’s a passionate dermatologist!
What was part of the regimen Gardner was skipping? The Erno Laszlo Splashing Technique:
- Step 1: Fill your skin with warm water and dip facial soap into the water before rubbing on your face. Then, lather the soap in your hands and apply to your face.
- Step 2: Using the “treatment water” in your sink, splash your face 20 times.
- Step 3: With clean, hot, running water, splash your face 10 more times. Pat dry.
It sounds a little extreme to perform the Splashing Technique each time you wash your face, but if you end up with skin like Ava’s, it might be worth it!
Feel like a celeb and get smooth, clear skin with Erno Laszlo’s newest product, the Blue Firmarine Treatment Bar.
