Jennie came allllll the way from the Bay Area to join the Ops team and we’re excited that she decided to make Birchbox her new home! Unlike other recent additions to our team, Jennie is fresh out of graduate school where she earned a master’s in education—such a smarty!—and worked part-time at Madewell and J.Crew. (As if it wasn’t obvious from the pic below that she’s totally stylish.) She also loves reading and is a fan of both Harry Potter and Hunger Games. Spoiler alert: She uses Rue’s whistle as her ringtone.

Fun fact: When I was in 5th grade, I met JK Rowling (!) and she signed my copy of Chamber of Secrets (!!). It was amazing.
Birchbox wouldn’t be here without our talented tech team and we’re excited to introduce the newest addition—Mike! Coding may make our head spin, but for Mike it’s a way of life. He spent his early years writing BASIC code on a C64 and forcing his younger siblings to organize their Legos into groups based on color and function. Several years later, he graduated from Cornell with a BS in Industrial Engineering and the rest is history. Say hello – and coincidentally happy birthday! – to this tech guru.
Mike Allen, Lead User Interface Engineer

Fun fact: I play Dungeons and Dragons regularly and my character is a 14th level Elf mage named Nilthandross Netherknell.
Besides being crazy cool computer geniuses, Matt and Dave have one very important thing in common: those aren’t actually their names—at least in the Birchbox office. It’s become customary to refer to Matt and Dave strictly by their last names or as “lewis” and “mattk” to their fellow Tech team members.
Kimmel is the kind of person who we think should wear a wizard’s hat just so everyone knows what he’s capable of. Lewis wows us with his code review skills and voracious reading habits and, we’re told, he has the softest hair in the whole office. We can’t believe it’s taken us this long to introduce you to these two, but here they are at last!
Well hello, MattK.

Here’s a face you probably recognize! Kyle is Birchbox Man’s assistant editor and a regular in our videos. When he’s not starring in the latest sneak peek with editor Martin, or writing up a storm on the Birchbox Man Guide, you’ll probably find him on the golf course practicing his short game. Word on the street is that he can also school anyone in I Love Lucy trivia or obscure rap lyrics.

Fun fact: I love birds and wanted to be an ornithologist for the first 16 years of my life.
Alina may be a software engineer here at Birchbox, but this talented lady wears many hats. In school, she not only majored in math, but she also was the co-captain of the dance team, a peer tutor for the math department, and the recruitment chair for her sorority. Plus, she’s also a certified scuba diver, played trumpet and piano as a child, and recently joined the Daughters of the American Revolution with her mom and grandma. Wow! Junior accountant Laurie grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania, but she eventually made her way to the southwest to plant roots in Austin. There she took advantage of the active lifestyle and competed in a sprint triathlon (!) and a half marathon. And of course what Austin resident could resist all the Tex-Mex? Laurie took full advantage of that too, don’t worry. But she’s left her home in the desert for Birchbox and we couldn’t be more pleased. Read on to learn more about her!

We Love (Snow) Hats!
It was snowing here in New York City today! In honor of all the gorgeous flurries outside, we thought we’d share a few photos of our own Director of Editorial Operations, Bene, showing off her shamazing hat collection. You know you want those hot pink earmuffs. (We have plans to steal them, but shhh don’t tell her.)
