Visiting Laicie Heeley’s blog, A Thousand Threads, feels a lot like stopping by a friend’s beautifully decorated home. The working mom, wife, and design-obsessed lifestyle guru is an expert at finding the little things that make life a little bit better—from delicious recipes to affordably chic home decor and beyond. Today she’s telling us all about her favorite beverage to usher in autumn.
It’s official, fall is here. But if you’re feeling anything like me, you’re still busy soaking up the last bits of summer’s warmth. I’m excited for the falling leaves (and for the return of my leather jacket and scarves), but there are still at least a few days left before I start to crave a seat by the fire and a toasty drink in my hand.
Enter the Stone Wall.
The Stone Wall is the perfect drink to help you transition into a fall mindset. With crisp autumn flavors and a gingery bite, it’s refreshing without reminding us of summer days by the pool.
When the cold comes, you can warm things up with a little bit of hot apple cider and rum. But for now this cold cocktail will help usher you through the cool fall afternoons—and it might even make you start itching for a piece of pumpkin pie.
Recipe via Food & Wine
One 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled
1 1/2 teaspoons Simple Syrup
1 1/2 ounces aged rum
1 1/2 ounces apple cider
1 1/2 ounces chilled ginger beer
1 lime wedge
1 slice of apple
In a cocktail shaker, muddle the sliced ginger with the simple syrup. Add the rum, cider and ice and shake well. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass and top with the ginger beer. Garnish with a lime wedge and apple slice.
