Whenever a big season change comes around, we know it’s time for us to overhaul our daily regimens. Which is why we asked some of beauty’s best to share their tips on how we should shake things up with our regularly scheduled beauty lineup. From how to protect your skin to the trick for scoring the longest lashes ever, here’s the insider advice that you won’t want to miss:
1. Try Going Natural
This fall at New York Fashion Week, we asked Juice Beauty founder Karen Behnke to tell us her big predictions for the coming year: “Gentle fruit-based, gluten-free beauty products are going to be a huge trend in 2014.” Heed this savvy founder’s advice and test drive all-natural alternatives like Juice Beauty’s recently launched collection of organic cosmetics. The line uses ingredients like organic açai, goji berries, blueberries, pomegranate, and cranberries to create gorgeous, vivid colors. Our current fave is the Glowing Cheek Color, which eschews parabens, petroleum, and pesticides and has a lovely dewy finish.
2. Simplify Your Skincare Routine
Let’s face it, firming up a skincare line is an overwhelming task. But it doesn’t have to be as daunting as it seems. Caudalie’s lead training manager Regine Berthelot advises, “start simple—cleanse at night to prevent the skin from absorbing the day’s makeup, pollution, and sweat while you sleep. During the day, never walk outside without an antioxidant moisturizer to protect skin from free radicals and sun damage—two of the main causes of aging.” Opt for a gentle face wash like Caudalie’s best-selling Instant Foaming Cleanser and follow with a healthy dollop of Vinexpert Radiance Day Cream SPF 15.
3. Swipe Mascara Behind Your Lashes
Whether your lashes are sparse and straight, or short and light, this pro tip will help you get more from your fringe. Neil Scibelli, national makeup artist for niche brand Jouer Cosmetics, said: “For beautifully curled top lashes, sweep the wand behind the lash. Then follow with a second coat in the front.” Use a shape-enhancing formula like Jouer’s everyday effortless mascara, which uses Vitamin E to moisturize and condition sparse lashes.
4. Learn to Love Your Mane
Celebrity hairstylist Serge Normant (whose clients include Blake Lively, Gisele Bundchen, and Julia Roberts) shared an unexpected trick to scoring gorgeous locks. The stylist explains, “A lot of people look only at what they don’t like about their hair. So what I always advise is try to look at your hair objectively, and there’s got to be at least one thing that you like. When you find that one thing, try to emphasize it and find the right products to go with it.” The foundation for all great hair is keeping it strong and healthy. Try Serge Normant’s Meta Silk Shampoo and Meta Velour Conditioner, each contains Keravis, a special vegetable protein that strengthens strands with every use.
