I’m always on the hunt for the best tools and products to get a salon-worthy blowout at home that will really last all day. Last week, I took home some products from indie hair brand amika that claimed to keep my blowout looking fresh long after the first day. After deciding to turn my bathroom into a DIY blowout bar, I documented the whole thing on Instagram. Read on to see how my locks held up despite a crazy busy work week:
After shampooing and conditioning, I spritzed on a detangler and brushed out my hair. Then I sprayed Amika’s Blow Up Spray all over my wet hair (about 5-6 spritzes) and brushed through to distribute evenly. This gave my clean hair some lightweight texture and a boost of volume.
I then sectioned my hair in half, clipping up the top half. Using Amika’s Power Cloud Pro Dryer with the nozzle attached and this Spornette round brush to hold my fine strands, I took a section of hair from underneath and gently rolled the brush down the strands. I started at the roots and moved the dryer over the brush, making sure to pull taut and point the nozzle down. Doing this creates movement, prevents frizz, and leaves hair shiny.
I took out the clip and repeated on the top half of my hair until it was completely dry.
Depending on the length and texture of your hair, this might seem like it could take a long time, but the ionic technology of the Amika dryer actually speeds up the drying process compared to other hair dryers I’ve used.
I finished off the look by misting my locks with Amika’s Touchable Hairspray to control flyaways. I loved that I could still run my fingers through my hair without feeling like there was extra residue.
The day after my at-home blowout, I’m happy to report I didn’t need to do much to my hair! But by day 3 my blowout was in need of a little volume boost. I used Amika’s Perk Up Dry Shampoo focusing on my roots top sop up any excess oil (Spoiler Alert: This is hands down the best-smelling dry shampoo EVER).
I love that this product can be used on both wet hair and dry hair—on the latter it works as a restyling spray. Since I just needed some extra oomph on the top layer of my hair, I blew out just that section, which only took about 5 minutes.
Overall, I’m definitely going to keep this blowout routine in heavy rotation. I got a pretty dramatic haircut this week (read: bangs!) which pretty much requires a sleek ‘do to look good, so I’m excited to use keep using these products and tips to give myself a blowout at home!
