As much as we love nail art, we’re better at admiring designs than coming up with them ourselves. That’s why we’ve enlisted Anna Norman, the smarty pants behind Glitter, She Wrote, to be a regular contributor. Every Monday, she’ll be sharing her latest lacquer inspiration—you won’t be satisfied with plain ol’ polish again.
There’s no time like summer for nail polish. Now that it’s June, it’s time to root through your polish collection (or pick up a few new favorites) to embrace the colors of the season. These are my top five picks to take you from June until Labor Day.
Pool Blue (thumb): Dark blues just don’t feel summer-y, and pale shades can be hard to pull off on most skin tones. This mid-tone blue is bright, cheerful, and totally wearable all summer long. Try OPI Can’t Find My Czechbook or Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics in Pool Boy.
Pastels (pointer finger): Pastel polish doesn’t have to be boring. In fact, it’s one of the top trends this summer. Try a classic pastel from RGB or kick it up a notch with this speckled pick from Deborah Lippmann.
Chrome (middle finger): Chrome polish is like jewelry for your nails. It’s sleek, stylish, and goes with everything. Make sure to add a glossy top coat to bring your nails to a glass-like finish. I’m wearing Color Club On The Rocks.
Tangerine (ring finger): While classic red nails are a “do” for any season, this super-saturated orange is a great alternative as the weather heats up. Orange is universally flattering and works on the beach and in the office. Try OPI My Paprika is Hotter Than Yours or Deborah Lippmann Lara’s Theme.
Holographic (pinky finger): If you don’t own a holographic nail polish yet, add it to the top of your to-do list! Holographics are best on bright sunny days when they can catch the light, sending a rainbow of colors across your nails. I’ll be wearing the new Halo Hues collection from Color Club all summer.
