A sapphire sautoir and ring from Elizabeth Taylor’s personal jewelry collection.
Last week, intrepid Birchbox Man editor Martin stopped by the oh-so-glamorous Cannes Film Festival. He got an insider’s peek at all the chic goings on—even walking the red carpet at the celebratory 50th anniversary screening of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton’s classic Cleopatra. Have you always been curious to know what really happens at one of the fanciest film fests in the world? Us too. Here’s a look behind-the-scenes:
The entire festival takes place in a very small area—with the red carpet literally ending only a few feet from the beach. Here, a shot of beach goers enjoying the sun from nearby Boulevard de la Croisette.
Photographers and fans lined up behind the police barricade to snap pictures of the red carpet.
Editor Martin looking dapper (oh no, crooked bow-tie! Birchbox Man emergency!) at the Cleopatra event standing next to original costumes from the 1963 film.
A gorgeous Bvlgari necklace, also from Elizabeth Taylor’s personal collection, shown outside the screening.
A view from the seats before the four-hour marathon viewing of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton’s epic on-screen romance in Cleopatra. (Fun fact: members of both Burton and Taylor’s family were in attendance to celebrate the event!)
Jessica Chastain introduced the film to the audience with FOX executives—wearing, of course, the gleaming Bvlgari sapphire sautoir from Taylor’s personal collection.
