Earlier this year, we gave you an update on the Pencils of Promise school that we built in Pasebeyena, Guatemala. The three-classroom school has been open since December 13th, and this weekend Katia, Hayley, and I are getting the (amazing) opportunity to visit it. The phenomenal PoP team has put together a jam-packed itinerary for us, including community visits, cultural activities (Lema weaving classes!), and of course plenty of time with the school staff and students. (We’ll also be zip-lining—eek!)
The Birchbox school in Pasebeyena, Guatemala, right after completion!
We’ve already been studying our pre-departure packets, which has handy information on the local currency and slang, and grabbing SPF samples off Birchbox staffers’ desks. In addition to snacks and bathing suits, here are some of the items the three of us will be packing:
Yes To Grapefruit Brightening Facial Towelettes: Single-use wipes are to travel what sprinkles are to ice cream—that is, non-negotiable. We’re fans of Yes To’s oil-free wipes for their citrusy scent and gentle, but satisfying exfoliating effect.
Herban Essentials Lavender Towelettes: We discovered Herban Essentials’ all-natural towelettes during the early days of Birchbox and have been hooked every since. They’re made with naturally antiseptic lavender and de-grime skin without drying it out.
Yes To Carrots Lip Butter in Pomegranate SPF 15: Katia is our resident dry-lip expert and she swears by this handy balm for its pleasant texture and built-in sun protection.
Marcelle BB Cream in Golden Glow: We don’t plan on wearing much makeup while we’re in Guatemala, but BB Cream is a nice compromise. This sheer BB Cream is my new favorite and, miracle of miracles, it suits all three of our skin tones.
CoTZ Face SPF 40: Hayley would never let us get away with wearing anything less than SPF 30, so we’re playing it safe with this mineral block. It has a light tint and dries to a completely matte finish.
Klorane Dry Shampoo: Katia doesn’t leave the house without dry shampoo, much less the country. This little guy is going to come in handy when we want to go from the lake to dinner without showering.
Marvis Toothpaste in Classic Mint: This Italian toothpaste is a constant in my bathroom, though I usually go for the more adventurous flavors like Ginger Mint. Lucky for Katia and Hayley (and their dental hygiene), I’m willing to share my favorite paste.
Another product that we love bringing with us on our trips? 100% Pure’s Nourishing Body Cream—perfect for tending to dry patches and sunburnt skin.
