Your New Favorite Drink: Guest Blogger

There’s something perfect about a sunny spring evening: The long day at work fades away, there’s a whispery promise of summer in the air, and the rich yellow sunlight stretching all the way to dinnertime feels like it’ll go forever. You could crack a bottle of Pinot Gris and kick off your heels or make the evening even better and spend 30 seconds making my favorite warm-weather drink: A simple effervescent mix of two parts Dolin Blanc vermouth to one part seltzer, with a subtle sweetness (and some color) thanks to a thin-sliced strawberry.

You may know vermouth from its co-starring role in a good martini (on that matter: Don’t be swayed by the fallacy that drier is better; a good vermouth gin martini is one of life’s exceptional pleasures), but a truly good bottle deserves to stand on its own. Dolin Blanc has been my go-to since its original formula was re-introduced to the American spirits market in 2008. It’s honeyed at first taste and slightly bitter on the finish, with a bright herbal spine that goes beautifully with a strawberry’s tart-sweet richness. Enjoy!
