Getting a HANDle on things: You’ve Got Male

Once a week, Birchbox’s resident yoga and men’s product expert, Eric, will gives us girls some insight into his world in You’ve Got Male. Whether he’s giving his expertise on skincare (boys need advice, too!) or highlighting his new favorite grooming trend, this guy has got taste—so we’re lucky he’s on staff and willing to share.

I don’t know many guys who get manicures, but most men that I know would acknowledge the importance of having presentable hands. Hands are often the first thing a person notices. We shake hands, hold hands, and gesticulate (albeit some more than others) in daily interactions. It’s totally possible to have very nice looking and feeling hands without the expense and commitment of regular manicures. Here are some must haves for hand maintenance.

Molton Brown Naran Ji Fine Liquid Hand Wash

Clean hands are nice hands and why not choose the best of the best when washing? Molton Brown is unparalleled in quality when it comes to hand wash and Naran Ji is their best seller. It is a dry, citrus fragrance (Florida orange and grapefruit) that is not in any way flowery or feminine. It cleans beautifully and eradicates odors while protecting hands from dryness and maintaining natural pH balance.

Deborah Lippmann Smooth Operator 4-Way Nail Buffer

When caring for nails, it’s important to keep them trimmed and buffed. This buffer has four numbered steps that provide a fool-proof route to shiny, smooth, healthy looking nails. I also like that none of the steps are at all rough or scratchy, which makes the buffing experience very comfortable.

Weleda Skin Food

I was exposed to this brand when I first started at Birchbox and I have fallen in love with this cream. Formulated with essential fatty acids and vitamin E to soothe dry and rough skin, it will make even the gruffest of hands smooth and moisturized with no greasiness. The scent is earthy and neutral so it’s the perfect hand cream to have next to your kitchen sink or on your bedside table.
