4 Unexpected Polishes To Try Right Now: Mani Monday

As much as we love nail art, we’re better at admiring designs than coming up with them ourselves. That’s why we’ve enlisted Anna Norman, the smarty pants behind Glitter, She Wrote, to be a regular contributor. Every Monday, she’ll be sharing her latest lacquer inspiration—you won’t be satisfied with plain ol’ polish again.

Sorbet shades, greens, and pale neutrals are at the top of the list this spring, but if you’re looking for something a little different, you’re in luck. Almost every nail polish line is featuring textured or special-effect lacquers this season, and they are seriously fun. Here are my four top picks.

LIQUID SAND: The “Liquid Sand” nail polishes from OPI are like nothing I’ve tried before. The gritty matte texture is bumpy enough to catch the light and has a subtle sparkle that I love. An added bonus? This stuff goes on easily but wears like iron, so it’s perfect if you can’t stand nails that chip in a day or two. I’m loving Honey Ryder, a subdued gold from the new OPI Bond Girls collection.

CHROME: Chrome polish isn’t just a plain ol’ metallic. It has a sleek, mirror-like finish, like you’ve dipped your tips in a pot of molten metal. I love pairing chrome with spring and summer brights and neons. Try Essie No Place Like Chrome for nails that shine like jewelry.

FEATHERS: Feathers on your nails? Well, not quite—but this is the next best thing. Nails Inc.’s new Feathers Effects Collection uses tiny pieces of glitter to simulate feather-covered nails for a seriously cool effect. Use it alone or layer the glitter over your favorite solid shade. I love the Brighton Feathers color, which taps into the green trend for spring.

HOLOGRAPHIC: I was obsessed with holograms as a kid, and now it’s one of my favorite lacquers to wear on my nails. The rainbow-hued, prism effect dazzles in the sun like no other polish I’ve tried. It’s also much easier to remove than glitter, which is a big plus in my book. Try the new Halo Hues holographic collection from Color Club.

Have you tried any of these new lacquers?
