3 Hair Problems Solved With One Brand: Shu Uemura Art of Hair

image

If you follow our blog regularly, you’ve probably sensed that the Birchbox office is basically a beauty-product candyland. As exciting as that is, it can also make it hard to find the formulas that really work for me. We recently added a number of products from Shu Uemura’s Art of Hair to our shop, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the line had products that worked with many different hair types. From brittle and over-processed strands to extra limp locks, there’s a Shu Uemura formula that can help your specific hair dilemma.  Here, a breakdown of my favorite products and how to use them:

Dry Hair

To calm and tame frizz, use the Essence Absolue Nourishing Oil in Cream which features camellia oil as a heat protectant that also hydrates dry strands. Rub a pea-sized amount onto your fingertips and smooth onto the damp ends of your hair, then after letting the oil sink in, continue to style hair as normal. Whether you use heat tools or not, the product will nourish hair leaving strands silky and sleek.

For overheated manes, try Satin Design a creamy lotion that hydrates hair. Pump a quarter-sized amount (dime-sized if you have shorter hair) into palms and finger comb through damp hair. The milky formula conditions broken ends and provides protection from further heat damage. Another major plus? You can use this product whenever you want! It’s lightweight enough to help tamp down frizzies but won’t leave you with oily looking hair—you can even use it after you’ve blow-dried and styled your ‘do.

Curly Hair

To help define curls or waves, try using Liquid Fabric. This texturizing mist uses seawater and jojoba oil to fight frizz, and leaves curls extra-defined. Want a more wavy style? Before bed, while hair is still damp, spritz the ends and scrunch up with hands. Then create a single braid down the back of your head. The next morning, loosely finger comb through the hair, and finish with a spritz of Sheer Lacquer hairspray to set the look.

Flat Hair

To pump up fine or flat tresses, use a dime size amount of Fiber Lift. Work this product into your roots, flip your head upside down and blowdry your roots first, then flip up to dry the ends. Your strands will get an instant boost for all-day volume.

If you need some extra texture or need to sop up excess oil, brush the Volume Maker's powder formula on your roots. Click the hand-held wand's button a few times to release the powder and sweep directly onto roots. Massage your hair from root to tip, pulling strands apart near the end of the hair. Finish by teasing the top sections of the hair for all-day lift.
