5 Polish Shades You Need This Spring: Mani Monday

As much as we love nail art, we’re better at admiring designs than coming up with them ourselves. That’s why we’ve enlisted Anna Norman, the smarty pants behind Glitter, She Wrote, to be a regular contributor. Every Monday, she’ll be sharing her latest lacquer inspiration—you won’t be satisfied with plain ol’ polish again.

It’s officially March, and even though it’s still quite chilly out, I’m itching to switch up my nail polish wardrobe. Goodbye dark, vampy shades, and hello to the colors of spring. While I do enjoy a pastel here and there, spring lacquer doesn’t always mean Easter egg-inspired hues. Here are my five picks to carry you through the season.

Poppy Red (thumb): This bright orange-hued red is one of the most universally flattering colors—it was even selected as one of the Pantone Fashion Color Report shades for the season. It’s livelier than the blue-hued reds of winter, but still looks sophisticated and classic. I’m wearing the brand new My Paprika Is Hotter Than Yours by OPI.

Bright White (pointer): If you ever gave yourself Whiteout manicures in study hall, this one’s for you. White is the hottest neutral this season—it’s bright, crisp, and pairs perfectly with spring fashion. Keep nails short and well-groomed, and avoid streaks by allowing each thin coat of polish to dry before moving on. I love the creamy Color Club French Tip, or try Asscher, a diamond-infused white from étoile.

Dusty Lilac (middle): My list of spring must-haves wouldn’t be complete without a soft pastel, and I really love this soft, cool-hued purple. I’m wearing You’re Such A Budapest by OPI.

Jewelry-Inspired Metallics (ring): Shiny metallic nails in gold, silver, and bronze were all over the Spring 2013 fashion runways, and for good reason. These foil-finished tips add some glam to your spring outfit, and are perfect if you’re not a pastel kind of gal. I’ve been wearing tenoverten in Worth nonstop.

Barely-There Green (pinky): Emerald is Pantone’s Color of the Year, but the deep hue just doesn’t feel right for me in spring. Instead, I’m going with this soft, pistachio green. It almost feels like a neutral, so if you’ve shied away from green lacquer before, this one’s worth a try. RGB Dew applies like a dream—it’s my go-to this season.

What’s on your must-have list?
