Back in middle school, the coolest thing I owned—besides my Doc Martens—was my beloved frosted glass bottle of ck one. The fresh unisex scent made me feel fabulously grown-up and in-the-know.
While I haven’t worn ck one since the ’90s, I am newly enamored with the brand. It all started when makeup artist Rob Harmon showed up at the Birchbox office with a tote bag full of Calvin Klein’s recently launched line, ck one color. I was majorly jealous. So I did what any rational adult would do—I immediately got my own stash.
I’ve been testing out the products and narrowed the line down to a few must-try items—I’m predicting obsession status.
3-in-1 Face Makeup SPF 8: With a light, fluid consistency, this all-in-one primer, serum, and foundation feels more like a tinted moisturizer than a heavy base. I was impressed by how much coverage it gave me, and how it went on streak-free.
Mascara: At first look, the wand looks fairly standard—straight, with close-set bristles. But twist it and it transforms into a spirally helix that fattens up lashes from root to tip (see below). It handily solves the question of length versus volume, plus I like the creamy, flake-free formula.
Eyeliner Marker in Psycho Candy: I’m a sucker for anything with a pen-style applicator so I was bound to fall in love with this smooth liner. Sure it comes in black, but I’m much more partial to the crazy vibrant teal shade.
Pure Color Lipstick in Little Liar: Orange reds are tops in my book, and you can’t get much better than this creamy shade. The formula is ultrapigmented and hydrating without being glossy.
These days, I still love unisex scents, especially ones as layered as Atelier Cologne’s Vetiver Fatale.
