When the SAG Awards aired this past Sunday night, we were so busy staring at Anne Hathaway’s intricate butterfly nail art that we almost forgot to check out her makeup. But as the picture above can attest, it warrants a second look. The Les Miserables star rocked a subtle but oh-so-pretty duo of bold, sweeping brows and matte lipstick. We love that she opted for a rosy pink-red lipstick instead of a bright crimson shade—or a dark lip à la Claire Danes—since it kept the look red-carpet-ready but still accessible. Click through to learn how we’d recreate Anne’s makeup step-by-step.
1. You won’t find a spot of shine on Anne’s face. Start with a mattifying tinted moisturizer or foundation, and dab a bit of concealer onto trouble spots to get a totally even canvas. Sweep on the lightest bit of peachy blush, starting from the apples of your cheeks and working towards your temples.
2. Now for the lips! Grab your matte lipstick and follow these easy application tips for long-lasting wear, courtesy of our friend (and pro makeup artist) Nam Vo.
3. Direct your attention to your eyes. Dust on a neutral matte shadow two shades darker than your skin tone, and add a line of liquid liner on your top eyelid for extra drama. Follow with a few coats of a mascara suited to your lashes.
4. Make the most of what you’ve got when it comes to your brows. Use brow powder or eyeshadow one shade lighter than your hair—or one shade darker, if your strands are fair—to fill in your brow. If you have sparse spots or a flat shape, try an arch-perfecting solution.
