Express Yourself in The Makeup Show’s First-Ever Face Chart Contest!

We fell hard for Natalie Alcala last fall, when the LA-based writer and blogger spent a week guest blogging for us. In fact, we loved her posts so much that we asked her to be a contributing editor. In addition to blogging for us once a week, she’ll also be writing for the Birchbox Magazine and keeping us up to speed on all things fashion, beauty, and fun.

From Parisian cool at Rebecca Taylor to bohemian charm at Creatures of the Wind to Victorian romance at Lela Rose, a variety of vibes inspire top makeup artists during fashion week. And, like a painter with a canvas, these beauty magic-makers have their own dedicated tool for expression: the face chart.

In honor of The Makeup Show's upcoming stop in Los Angeles on March 2 and 3, the international event is giving beauty aficionados—like you!—the opportunity to express your unique vision like the pros do. They’ve just launched their first-ever “Face ChART” contest, which asks both makeup artists and fans to illustrate a famous fine art character’s beauty on a face chart, using only cosmetics. (For example, Lady Gaga’s favorite makeup artist James Vincent recreated iconic painter Frida Kahlo’s face above.) Finalists will have their work featured at The Makeup Show LA and the winner will score a makeup kit with all of Mr. Vincent’s fave products.

If you’re down to give it a try (I’m debating between submitting a Marie Antoinette or Cleopatra face—both are so fun!), print out your face chart here and get going. Send your high-res scanned face chart to info@themakeupshow.com by February 15. If you’re a finalist or winner, you’ll be contacted by February 18. Learn more here and, if you’re in the LA area, snap up tickets to the show here. Good luck!
