We’re guilty of sticking with the same hair cut for years — if it’s not broke, why fix it? — but that can be a little boring. But not everyone has our issue. Paulina, one of our amazing operations associates, is always eyeing new cuts and styles. She’ll be sharing her tress inspiration and tips every other week.

We’re absolutely fans of bangs here in the Birchbox office. But if there’s anything more trying than growing out a pixie cut, it’s growing out your fringe. So let’s say you’re trying to go for a more bangs-less look in these next few months—it shouldn’t mean you have to lose your knock-out hairstyle too! Here are three painless tips and tricks to help you grow out your fringe without having to compromise:
1. Bangs look like they need a trim? Head to the stylist.
We’re not suggesting that you give in and keep your fringe. Counter-intuitively, this is actually the time to have a quick appointment with your stylist. Give them a heads up and let them know you’re growing out your bangs. But to make at-home styling easier for this transition, ask them to thin out the bottom, outer edges of the fringe so that they blend easier with the hair falling near your face. This will help make brushing your bangs ino a side-sweep a piece of cake!
2. Think of your too-long fringe as your greatest excuse to accessorize.
As your strands get longer and start to graze your cheekbones, remember that pins, headbands, and hairpieces are aplenty. We always find that our friend Nicole Richie is a huge inspiration for the hottest head-gear and accessories!
3. Finally, those side pieces are just below your cheekbones, but they’re framing your face a little wildly. Now what?
It’s time to brush those babies into a center part and invoke your inner Bardot! This is a great time to build some volume throughout your hair. Try it down with plenty of backcombing at the crown, or pump up your pony for an extra mod night out look. At this point, we know you’ve totally got it. Just a couple more inches and you’ll be home free!
Can’t get enough of Paulina’s great hair tips? Neither can we. Here’s even more hairistocracy.
