We fell hard for Natalie Alcala last fall, when the LA-based writer and blogger spent a week guest blogging for us. In fact, we loved her posts so much that we asked her to be a contributing editor. In addition to blogging for us once a week, she’ll also be writing for the Birchbox Magazine and keeping us up to speed on all things fashion, beauty, and fun.

Besides it being awards season, there’s another reason why this is my favorite time of year: It’s the release of spring ad campaigns! Although I love the bundled up looks for fall, spring collections are always fresh, fun and bursting with brilliance. Plus, I get particularly hyped for the latest ads since the beauty is more experimental as well. From the slick hair and dark lip at Kurt Reiger to the peach lid and nude pout at Max Mara, here are the looks that I’m really feeling for spring.
Kurt Reiger (above): Anja Rubik slays in this shoot for the British fashion brand, snapped by Erik Torstennon. The sultry black-rimmed eyes, smooth-backed hair and nail-lip color coordination is giving major Robert Palmer vibes, which is a welcome throwback. I’d use Noir’s Long-Wear Eyeliner and revisit Birchbox’s dark lip tutorial to channel this look.

Blumarine: One of my favorite of-the-moment models, Anna Selezneva, looks simply enchanting here. Her sweet, glowing skin and sensual cat-eye complement the Italian label’s romantic range well. Use BY TERRY’s Hyaluronic Face Glow to prep and Benefit’s High Beam to spotlight your features.
Tom Ford. (Photo: Grazia)
Tom Ford: Taking a page from Barbarella, Mr. Ford’s spring girl is a total vamp. I love the retro bouffant and dramatically-lined eyes, which can easily be mimicked by following this handy hair guide and generously applying stila’s Waterproof Liquid Liner.
Balmain. (Photo: Fashion Gone Rogue)
Balmain: Anna Selezneva wins again with this campaign for French cult-favorite label, Pierre Balmain. Shot by Karim Sadli and art directed by Atelier Franck Durand, the look is inspired by the French glamour of silver screen icons like Jeanne Moreau. After heavily lining your eyes with Noir’s Mania Kohl Eyeliner, learn how to nail the wet hair look here.
Fendi. (Photo: Fashion Loving)
Fendi: More throwback love, courtesy of Kati Nescher for famed Italian fashion house, Fendi. Snapped by the one and only Karl Lagerfeld, this look encourages you to have your Cleopatra moment—with a modern twist. Use theBalm’s Schwing Black Liquid Liner to create what I’m calling an upside-down cat-eye on the lower lid, and add a touch of white shadow to accentuate the corners.
Max Mara. (Photo: Fashion Gone Rogue)
Max Mara Studio: Do you love or do you love? Toni Garrn, Kendra Spears and Juju Ivanyuk look like adorable mod pixies in this shoot by Giampaolo Sgura. Get the look by pairing Jouer’s Peach Powder Eyeshadow with Pixi’s Beauty Lip and Line Primer.
