We’re shooting our February videos today, and one of the highlights of our lineup was a cameo from the famed stylist Serge Normant. Fresh off the plane from L.A. (where he styled Julia Roberts’ hair for the Golden Globes over the weekend), Normant sat down with our co-founder Katia for a step-by-step tutorial.
We don’t want to reveal too much, but we will say that Normant is a sucker for volume and feels that proper teasing is the key to great lift. “Teasing is the critical part. Obviously, having the right products is great, but it’s a matter of learning how to tease,” he says. So what exactly is the right technique? Normant insists on using a fine tooth tail comb and lifting hair straight up to tease the hair from behind, never from the top or front. As you tease, start at the roots by pulling down in small one sections and slowly work your way up through the middle of your hair. “It’s about building a mountain of teasing, you don’t want it to look like one big nest.”
