How to Transition Your Eye Makeup From Day to Night

Makeup artist Stefanie Syat is a regular at our monthly video shoots, where she keeps us camera-ready and even makes the occasional star turn. Yesterday, she came by to check out our new digs and, naturally, we used the opportunity to get some real-time beauty advice.

We took advantage of her seemingly bottomless store of product knowledge to solve the ultimate busy gal’s dilemma: (quickly!) transitioning eye makeup from day to night. Equipped with just theBalm® cosmetics’ Balm Jovi Rockstar Face Palette (which you can buy for the next 24 hours in today’s Discovery Dash sale!) she showed us how to get a mini 5 o’clock makeover. Click through to learn how she transformed our PR and Events Coordinator Jamie!

Day: For an everyday office look, Syat suggest sticking to soft shades that can easily be jazzed up for an evening out. Using a fluffy eyeshadow brush, she swept Blinc-1982 onto Jamie’s eyelid from the lashline to the crease. The muted burgundy is neutral enough for a buttoned up office environment, while the subtle undertones of plum and gold shimmer make it easy to transition the hue to evening. She finished with a swipe of mascara.

Night: To take this look up a notch, Syat swept Third Eye Blinded onto the eyelids and blended the color beyond the crease. This instantly brightened Jamie’s blue eyes and had a dramatic “wide-open” effect. The key, Syat says, is adding more color. Don’t be afraid if it’s too much, because you always blend to soften it.”

She then used an angled eyeliner brush to sweep Moderato, a deep purple-burgundy, along Jamie’s lash line to create a winged effect. To further define her eyes, she traced it along the lower lashline as well. She added another coat of mascara, patted some Solid Gold Highlighter on Jamie’s cheeks, and shooed her off to that night’s event (the Girls premiere—lucky her!).

When it comes to speedy day to night transformations, it’s all about having the right tools. With twelve eyeshadows, one dreamy highlighter, one blush, and two lip colors, this palette ranks high on our list of desk drawer essentials. Each pretty hue—wait for it—hits all the right notes. Bonus: you can score this baby for a fraction of the cost during our first ever Discovery Dash—for 24 hours only, it’s just $25!
