Hairistocracy: New Year, New Hair. 3 Trends to Try in 2013

We’re guilty of sticking with the same hair cut for years—if it’s not broke, why fix it? But not everyone has our issue. Paulina, one of our amazing operations associates, is always eyeing new cuts and styles. She’ll be sharing her tress inspiration and tips every other week.

With January 1st right around the corner, many of us will undoubtedly be contemplating a hair re-do. (What better way to stride into a new year and season?) Whether you’re ready to chop off major inches or thinking about something more subtle, we have some inspiration for you. Behold, our forecast for 2013’s top three trends. From the looks of things, this year is all about embracing natural texture and bringing back graceful, feminine cuts.

Major Fringe:

Let’s bring back thick, playful fringes that showcase the face. It might mean a little upkeep but it’s a fresh change for spring. We love this style because it can be pulled off with longer lengths; as well as shoulder-length bobs.

The Big Chop:

Ms. Karlie Kloss is leading this trend with her recent bob. Get rid of the old—literally and figuratively—by snipping off significant inches. For those of you raring to join, a bob/lob is the way to go. The length can range from shoulder-grazing to just below the jawline. Just be sure to ask your stylist what would work best with your face shape.

Long Layers and Playing Parts:

2013 is about embracing simplicity: no matter what your hair length, think more blunt cuts and softer layers (if any at all!). By keeping the layers to a minimum, you’ll give your hair the chance to show off its natural texture. Be sure to keep a healthy diet to bring out shine and fullness!

But there’s more: grab your nearest comb and start parting. The deep side part is the latest trend hitting the runways to date. It’s an easy way to update your ‘do without breaking out the scissors.

Use these versatile styles to get ready for the new year—it’s going to be the best one yet!
