My Totally Indispensable Beauty Essentials: Guest Blogger

Nothing gets us giddy like a good wedding. Katelyn Koepke Lewis, one of our lovely freelance writers, got hitched this October and we couldn’t resist asking her to share her bridal wisdom. The former PR maven and J-school grad recently went back to her editorial roots, working as a feature writer and editor for Be U Weddings, a Chicago-based blogazine. This week, Katelyn’s sharing her newlywed advice, from bridal beauty tricks that you can use post-wedding to how to pick hostess gifts for your new in-laws.

Take a moment to ponder your makeup must-haves. You might immediately list off a pore-perfecting foundation or that spot-on lipstick shade. What tends to get lost in the shuffle though? The behind-the-scenes preppers that—let’s face it—don’t seem as glamorous (or as fun to dish about) as the chic blush compact you just slid into your purse.

For me, these secret weapon tools: ensure that my eye makeup doesn’t slide off, combat inevitable t-zone shine, breathe more life into my locks, snatch stray hairs, and eradicate zits. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to focus on the more delightful beauty battles, like what color mani I should sport this week. Here are the hidden heroes of my beauty regimen:

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Tube
This is hands down, the only eye primer I have found to be 100% effective at keeping my eye shadow in place. I use it every day, and there are no signs of the greasy, yuck-what-happened-to-her-eye-makeup days of yore.

boscia Green Tea Blotting Linens
Over the past few years, I endured a surge of shiny nose syndrome. These puppies eliminate that unwanted sheen without messing up my foundation, and it’s quite possibly the quickest pick-me-up I’ve found.

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray
As a native Texan, I can never get enough of that extra “oomph” in my strands. My best friend turned me onto this dry shampoo/texturizer blend, and now it’s my sneaky touch-up for a little lift-off, morning or night.

Tweezerman Slant Tweezer
A proud representative of the DIY brows club, I know my tweezers, and this pair wins top billing. No one wants to discuss “unwanted hair” (maybe the most awkward term ever), but with a quick pinch from this tool, problem solved.

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion
Nothing puts the kibosh on a morning quite like a surprise breakout. I discovered this godsend in college—it mitigates the size, redness, and your “X-marks the spot” mentality extra quick.

Don’t miss Katelyn’s must-try bridal beauty tricks that anyone can master.
