We fell hard for Natalie Alcala last fall, when the LA-based writer and blogger spent a week guest blogging for us. In fact, we loved her posts so much that we asked her to be a contributing editor. In addition to blogging for us once a week, she’ll also be writing for the Birchbox Magazine and keeping us up to speed on all things fashion, beauty, and fun.
As editor Lorelei mentioned a few months ago, nude digits were all the rage this spring, both on and off the runway. Although the bare look is ridiculously chic, I recommend punching it up for fall by experimenting with the season’s generous array of glitter and metallic polishes.
On a recent Saturday morning, I was casually watching throwback Britney Spears music videos on YouTube (don’t judge) and stumbled upon the pop star’s 2000 MTV Video Music Awards performance in which she wore a sparkly flesh-colored bodysuit. Being the thematic mani fan that I am, a light bulb went off: why not create a nail version of that infamous costume?
After applying two coats of my favorite nude nail polish in the universe, HIPPxRGB in T2 (it’s a collab between RGB and eco-friendly celeb makeup artist Jenna Hipp; this RGB shade works just as well), it was time to add some serious shine. Using a sponge, I sparsely applied sparkly flecks of SpaRitual’s Looking Glass—you can also use Color Club’s Disco Nap—on each nail. The results were as close to rocking a bedazzled bare bodysuit that I’ll ever get!
If you’re looking to create your own sparkly nude remix this weekend, there are tons of Pinterest boards dedicated to the trend. Enjoy!
