Who Needs Power When You Have Puppies? Check Out Birchbox’s Makeshift Digs

Hurricane Sandy may have wiped out power in all of lower Manhattan, including Birchbox HQ, but that doesn’t mean our staffers aren’t still hard at work. They’re just being a little…creative…about where they’re getting stuff done.

Our awesome (and stubborn) team has set up BBox “offices” all over the Tri-State area (take that, natural disaster!). Yesterday, as an afternoon pick-me-up, we started a ridiculously long email chain filled with photos of our new workday digs. From upstate New York to Brooklyn to uptown Manhattan, here’s a peek at our makeshift workspaces.

A cohort camping out at the Flatiron School. A closer look at the signs: “Flatiron School Birchbox Refugees” and “LIZ [our CTO]—we’re learning to code! (exclude Marie and Jer).”

"Hi Team Birchbox! I am hanging with Norwegian babies in Bklyn!" —Hayley, Co-Founder

"My makeshift office—my brother-in-law’s apartment on the UES. I even get a desk!"
—Kelly, PR Senior Manager

"At home in Bklyn." —Liz, Chief Technology Officer

"Hello and Happy Halloween from Banksy and me :-) Banksy is helping keeping me sane as I plow through emails. Hugs and kisses from Williamsburg." —Bianca, Operations Manager

Graphic designer Charlie is marooned on Long Island with her pup, Riley. “Truth is … Riley has actually been answering my emails all day ;).”

"Operating in stealth mode in Brooklyn…" —Mike, Chief Financial Officer

"Audrey (right) and I are powering through emails and backorders in Bushwick! Cooper is not impressed." —Operations Associate Kimiko

"Missing everyone! I’m coming to you live from Hell’s Kitchen. Excuse how crazy I look in this photo, my hair and makeup team isn’t available today—said something about Beyonce needing them downtown :)" —Marketing Manager Bridgette

"Stuck in Austin for a few more days. Going a little crazy and eating far too much BBQ and Tex Mex! Looking forward to the sanity of BBHQ next week… hopefully." —Director of Product Management Dave, GIF style.

To see even more hard-at-work New York teams, take a peek at Buzz Feed’s and Refinery29’s fancy new digs.

Please note: Due to Hurricane Sandy, the November Birchbox production has been significantly delayed. Our warehouse is now open and production is back underway but running at lower volumes due to short staffing. Shipments will begin leaving on 11/7 and continue through mid-month. Unfortunately, many boxes will ship after our promised deadline of the 10th of the month. We apologize and thank you in advance for your patience.
