We fell hard for Natalie Alcala last fall, when the LA-based writer and blogger spent a week guest blogging for us. In fact, we loved her posts so much that we asked her to be a contributing editor. In addition to blogging for us once a week, she’ll also be writing for the Birchbox Magazine and keeping us up to speed on all things fashion, beauty, and fun.
Although I spend most of my time traveling the world surveying style in New York, London, and Paris, I always love returning home to support local talent. This season’s L.A. Fashion Week has been particularly inspiring both on and off the runway, thanks to the bevy of designers, models, and partygoers showcasing inspiring new looks. Here’s a roundup of some killer coifs that caught my eye.
Naven designers Kimberley and Alexis McClay (also known as “The Naven Twins”) sported adorable ‘dos at their spring 2013 presentation this week. I love the sleek middle part and top knot/fringe combo.
Speaking of top knots, the intricately braided bun on this model at the Jen Awad show (the designer, right) was a fantastic addition to the retro-inspired presentation.
Another retro-happy event was last night’s Harlyn spring launch party, which featured a live performance by Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley. I couldn’t resist snapping actress Megan Duffy's fiery up-do and custom Shareen Vintage outfit.
Although Grey’s Anatomy actress Ellen Pompeo (left) looked stunning as always, Rachel Zoe totally stole the show at the Veuve Clicquot LA Polo Classic. Something tells me that Vidal Sassoon’s Jeremy Davies-Barbala would totally approve of the stylist/designer/star’s fierce fringe and loose waves action.
That’s me! Although I’m not half as famous as these gals, I was pretty proud of this half-up soft curls look that a friend did for me a few days ago. It was a fun change from my standard straight locks. I kicked the vintage vibe up a notch by adding these dazzling DANNIJO earrings.
