Pamella Roland’s Fall 2011 show, which took place on Monday at the Lincoln Center tents, featured striking East meets West makeup. I chatted with Matin Maulawizada, Global Artisry Director and Brand Ambassador for Laura Mercier, about his vision for the show’s makeup. (Side note, Matin actually has a Masters in Molecular Biology and worked as a research scientist before going into beauty.)
Anyway, back to the show: Matin wanted to balance the soft romance of the clothes and hair with a more dramatic modern look. The result combined dramatic Asian-inspired touches with retro American 1950s elements.
Read on for the makeup by Matin:
Matin started with Laura Mercier’s Crème Smooth Foundation for a semi-matte look, using a shade lighter than the models’ skin tone. He left the rest of the skin bare for a flawless porcelain doll look. To add drama, the lips were colored with a deep cream lip colour, Sangria, and topped with a Scarlet stain. Next, Matin primed eyes with Laura Mercier’s Eye Basic, and created an exaggerated line with Mercier’s Caviar Cream Eyeliner. The liner is dragged straight out past the edge of the models’ eyes, leaving a slight wing when their eyes are open. We love the retro feeling and can see rocking this on special occasions, especially paired with the chic teased hair by Paul Labrecque! We’re already practicing this look with tips from stylist Jeff Chastain.
